Denise Austin just shared a simple yet effective exercise on Instagram.
The 68-year-old demonstrated a compound move that targets the abs and legs.
The “squat and twist” exercise “is great for your meno-belly, legs, and booty,” Austin explained.
If you’re looking for a quick yet effective exercise to give your workout plan a boost, Denise Austin has you covered. The fitness pro is always inspiring women over 50 with her simple workout moves. Now, she’s showing fans the most efficient way to get a strong lower body and toned abs with a genius compound exercise.
“One move that is GREAT for your MENO-BELLY, legs, and booty!! Yes!!! Stand up and do this squat and twist move with me for at least one minute…it will help strengthen the abs and obliques while also engaging the lower body…making it perfect to target the belly fat that increases with menopause!!” Austin captioned her video. “Remember...workouts don’t have to take hours in a gym, little movements like this that you can do anytime, anywhere WILL add up!! Xoxo.”
In the video, Austin demonstrates the move while wearing a neon green leotard and a pair of bright white sneakers (feeling nostalgic for her ’80s VHS tape days, anyone?). Before getting started, the 68-year-old reiterates that this multi-functional move helps to target what she calls the “meno-belly” (a.k.a. menopause belly) and “will also work those love handles and muffin tops,” or body fat that accumulates around the abdomen that Austin says “we all get.” But that’s not all—this move also targets the “legs and booty!” Let’s break it down.
To perform the exercise, Austin says to begin with “hands behind your head” and does so while standing with her feet planted slightly wider than shoulder-width distance apart.
The first part of the move starts with a standard squat. Simply lower your glutes toward the ground while bending your knees with a slight lean forward until your knees reach a 90-degree angle (or as close to it as you can get).
Next, as Austin stands up from the squat, she instructs viewers to “twist” by lifting one leg off the ground and bringing the knee to the opposite elbow, rotating the core to perform the movement.
Then, Austin simply places her foot back down and repeats the exercise on the other side.
Per Austin’s instructions in the caption of the video, do as many repetitions as you can for at least one minute. Tip: While this is a bodyweight move, we bet you could add a pair of ankle weights if you’re looking to challenge yourself.
As always, Austin’s fans appreciated the fun yet informative tutorial. “I love these quick little tips! Thank you!” one follower commented. “Thanks for sharing. Definitely need this. Inspiring 🥰🫶,” another added. “Tried it and I felt the burn 🔥,” another chimed in.
Once you’ve mastered this move, consider adding more of Austin’s fan-favorite workouts to your next sweat session. The fitness pro previously demonstrated three easy moves for women over 50, two ab-defining low-impact moves, a core exercise for “menopausal belly”, and more.
We love that Austin continues to inspire everyone to live a healthy lifestyle while reminding us that staying active doesn’t have to be complicated. While we await her next fitness tutorial, we’ll be stocking up on some Austin-approved gear to make the most of her workouts.
