TikTok is my go-to for all the latest trends and hacks to hit the internet — I find it especially useful if I’m trying to find new ways to keep my kitchen and home feeling fresh and clean. There’s so much out there on #CleanTok, so I decided to round up some of the most useful cleaning hacks I came across on TikTok in 2024. Here are my favorites.

1. Use a sponge and spatula to clean under appliances.

I find that one of the grimiest spots in my kitchen also happens to be one of the most difficult spots to clean. So when I came across this super-simple hack using an old sponge and a spatula to reach tricky spots, I wondered how I could have possibly gone my entire life without this knowledge!

Simply cut a small slit in the side of an old sponge, take a wooden spatula and stick the wood end through the slit to create a handy-dandy magical cleaning wand that can reach all of the nooks and crannies tucked under your fridge. It works well for getting out any loose crumbs, dust, or spills that tend to get lost under any appliance.

2. When life gives you lemons, add salt.

Lemons are one of the most versatile household items that can be used to clean virtually anything, and they smell great. One of my favorite hacks is to use a lemon covered in salt as a sort of exfoliator to get those tough grease stains off an electric or glass stovetop. The grainy texture of the salt combined with the acidity of the lemon helps to lift the grease off the glass, and then you can simply wipe it off with a paper towel.

3. Try a pumice stone to clean your oven.

Instead of using the self-cleaning function on your ovens, try this trick. It may seem a bit unconventional, but I was surprised to see how well using a pumice stone to clean your oven works. Simply spray down the inside of your oven with your preferred cleaning solution, and gently scrub away at any built-up grime or food. The TikTok I watched really emphasized the importance of being extra gentle and keeping the surface wet when using the pumice stone to clean the inside of your oven to avoid any cracks or scrapes.

4. Get rid of gunk in your washing machine with a steam cleaner.

I’ve seen plenty of steam cleaner videos on TikTok, and they’re all as satisfying as the next. While you can use steam to clean virtually anywhere, this creator decided to use it to deep-clean their washing machine, and I was astonished at how much gunk and grime the steamer was able to get out of all the nooks and crannies. This got me thinking of all of the other spots and appliances in my home that would benefit from a deep steam cleaning, like the dishwasher or fridge.

5. Know that Fabuloso is absolutely fabulous.

The cleaning powers of Fabuloso are an open secret in the #CleanTok community. It’s such a great cleaning product that it even has a dedicated following among the Latinx community (my grandma swears by it!). Its smell instantly makes my home feel cleaner, and this hack proves it. This TikToker suggests mixing about 1/4 cup Fabuloso with 1/2 cup water and leaving it any particularly smelly spot around your home, like near your pet supplies, in the sink, or by a litter box, and the smell will mask any unpleasant odors while also making the entire house smell fresh like it was just cleaned.

6. Say goodbye to garlic smell on your hands, thanks to stainless steel.

I love cooking, but I hate when my hands still smell like garlic or onions for hours afterwards. I’ve seen a few different methods for how to remove the garlic smell from your hands, but one that I kept coming across on TikTok is to rub your hands on something made of stainless steel under running water for at least 30 seconds. The idea behind this trick is that the fragrant sulphur compounds from the garlic bind to the stainless steel and are then removed from your hands.

7. Wipe with shaving cream for a streak-free shine.

I love any cleaning hack that uses what’s readily available in my cabinets. For this hack, you’ll need some shaving cream for a streak-free shine on appliances or glass. Simply wipe your mirrors down with shaving cream and watch in amazement as your mirrors no longer fog up the next time you take a steamy shower.
