The 7 Best Menswear Moments at the 2024 Emmys

As awards season grinds on, the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards put a spotlight on our favorite television stars who’ve kept us company in the darkness of the streaming era. Thankfully with programs like The Bear, Succession, and Beef, many of these actors also happen to be menswear stars both on- and off-screen…and they’ve been dressing up a storm on all these red carpets.

While the fashion at last night’s Emmys was a bit of a snooze overall—hey, three major awards shows in 14 days is no joke!—the famous fellas still managed to provide some choice menswear Easter eggs. Scroll on to see the best bits.

Matty Matheson’s socks and fisherman sandals

This season, The Bear star and real-life chef Matty Matheson has developed a real knack for being the best-dressed person at any given awards show. On Sunday, the Canadian native—who cooks up all his own red-carpet ensembles—wore a tuxedo from the Canadian menswear brand Harold by Harry Rosen, which he expertly punctuated with a pair of Church’s leather fisherman sandals and some fresh white Reebok gym socks. “With the ratio of black and white, I think it’s a nice little accent,” said Matheson on the carpet, proving that socks and sandals are more than just a summertime staple.

Plus, the sight of Ebon Moss-Bachrach smooching a sandaled-up Matheson onstage? Priceless.

And while Matty Matheson accepted the Outstanding Comedy Series Emmy on The Bear’s behalf, his castmate Jeremy Allen White caused a brief commotion thanks to an errant button on his Armani tuxedo shirt, which undoubtedly led minds to wander to the actor’s recent, oft-discussed Calvin Klein campaign. By the end of the evening, White—who also scooped up a solo trophy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series—even loosened up his literal and proverbial buttons on purpose, ditching his bowtie in celebration.

Colman Domingo’s whole deal

The Color Purple and Rustin star Colman Domingo has been on a true fashion heater this awards season (his eye-popping Valentino getup at the Critics’ Choice Awards was an instant highlight), and last night’s Emmys were no exception. His Pharrell-designed Louis Vuitton evening coat, which he accessorized with pearl and rubies, was elegant and vampiric in all the right ways.

“I feel like a king tonight,” Domingo told WWD at the Golden Globes last week. “I feel like a winner.” He’s been dressing like one, too.

Lee Sung Jin’s Tabi loafers

Beef creator Lee Sung Jin delivered a moving speech last night while accepting the Emmy for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, but he also delivered a real menswear serve on the carpet in a pair of split-toe Margiela Tabi loafers, which may or may not persuade you to do some Tabi-swiping of your own. (Kidding, kidding!)

Donald Glover in Bode

Donald Glover’s opera pumps

Donald Glover, who was nominated last night for his Beyoncé-inspired horror series Swarm, continued his red-carpet hot streak with a flower-embroidered Bode suit and the label’s heeled leather opera pumps, which offer a lovely ballet-flats-adjacent silhouette for any daring fashionista.

Speaking of: The aforementioned Matty Mathseon actually wore the same Bode opera pumps to the Critics’ Choice Awards on Saturday evening. But the next day? “Phew, my little feet,” Matheson reported back on the Emmys red carpet, where he’d opted for more comfortable fisherman sandals.

Pedro Pascal in Valentino

Pedro Pascal’s thin little sweater

When’s the last time you saw a sweater on a formal red carpet? Well, Pedro Pascal is in the business of wearing the unexpected. The Last of Us star been switching up his awards-show style to accommodate the arm sling he’s wearing due to a shoulder injury, which was not actually a casualty of his faux-schoolboy feud with fellow nominee Kieran Culkin, whom Pascal joked “beat the shit out of me” during last night’s broadcast. That said, Pascal looked the part in his shirt and tie layered beneath a custom, sheer-knit Valentino crewneck that featured puffy rosettes on the cuffs.

Kieran Culkin tearing off his jacket to accept his award

The Succession star won the Outstanding Lead Actor trophy last night and, in a fit of onstage euphoria, ripped off his Givenchy jacket and threw it to the ground before gleefully accepting his award. “Don’t pick it up. I couldn’t do the button,” he told presenter Calista Flockhart, fidgeting to quickly fix the tuck on his shirt—which, ultimately, felt like a very Roman Roy thing to do.
