Conor McGregor: Patek Philippe Ellipse
Irish professional mixed martial artist and boxer Conor McGregor was spotted this week wearing a vintage Patek Philippe Ellipse in yellow gold, Ref. 3738/118 (pictured, right is the new Patek Philippe Ellipse 5738/1R). McGregor rose to global fame as a UFC fighter, becoming the first UFC champion to simultaneously hold titles in both the Featherweight and Lightweight classes. In addition to his love of fighting, he also has a passion for watches and owns several Patek Philippe models, including two Nautilus chronographs, two Annual Calendar Chronographs, a Calatrava Skeleton, and a Rare Handcrafts Calatrava. Photographed here is Patek Philippe’s latest Ellipse which retails for $38,060. If you prefer McGregor’s yellow-gold version with the blue dial, you can expect to pay around $30,000 on the secondary market.
Taylor Swift: Louis Vuitton Tambour
Singer and songwriter Taylor Swift is rarely seen wearing a watch, but when she does, everyone notices. She was recently spotted in Kansas City, Missouri, wearing a Louis Vuitton Tambour timepiece in yellow gold. She was at Arrowhead Stadium watching the Kansas City Chiefs and the Denver Broncos keeping time on the game with her Louis Vuitton watch. The Tambour is a unisex timepiece that features Louis Vuitton’s first integrated bracelet, which blends seamlessly into the slim case. There is a range of different materials and colors to choose from, and Taylor Swift has gone for the yellow-gold version with a white dial, which you can purchase for around $54,000.
Guy Pearce: Omega Speedmaster ‘57
Actor and musician Guy Pearce attended The Brutalist UK Special Screening at the Picturehouse Central in London recently wearing an Omega Speedmaster ’57. Housed in a 40.5 mm stainless steel case, this Speedmaster model has been used on no less than six lunar missions. Its design was inspired by the original model from 1957, which had a blue dial with rhodium-coated hands and indexes. The chronograph includes a small seconds counter at 9 o’clock, an hour and minute counter at 3 o’clock, and a date at 6 o’clock, which is all powered by Omega’s Co-Axial Master Chronometer 9906 movement.
Mark Wahlberg: Tudor Black Bay Chrono “Flamingo Blue”
The Tudor Black Bay Chrono “Flamingo Blue” with a turquoise dial was featured a few weeks ago in this column on the wrist of British former professional soccer player David Beckham. This week it is Mark Wahlberg’s turn to be spotted wearing one. The actor and producer is a well-known watch enthusiast and loves to be the first to get his hands on the latest wristwear. He was among the first to own the Patek Philippe Cubitus late last year. Tudor fans will be pleased to learn that the Black Bay Chrono “Flamingo Blue” is now officially for sale at $6,000.
Mark Zuckerberg: Patek Philippe Grand Complication Chronograph Perpetual Calendar
Co-founder and CEO of Meta Mark Zuckerberg was on Instagram again this week wearing yet another exceptional timepiece. At the rate he is acquiring watches, he’ll soon be able to open his own museum! This week’s timepiece is a rose gold Patek Philippe Grand Complication Chronograph Perpetual Calendar, Ref. 5270/1R with its beautiful “Goutte” bracelet and black sunburst dial. The watch is powered by the Caliber CH 29-535 PS that indicates the hours and minutes in the center, the day and month in a double aperture at 12 o’clock, the date at 6 o’clock, and includes a chronograph function.
Salman Khan: Jacob & Co. Billionaire III
Indian actor, film producer, and television personality Salman Khan was pictured on Instagram this week with Jacob Arabo, founder of Jacob & Co., trying on the brand’s Billionaire timepiece. This wristwatch is set with 714 white diamonds with a mix of emerald-cut, rose-cut, and baguette-cut gemstones, totaling 129.6 carats. The amount of brilliance almost distracts from the watch’s movement, which is also of note as it features a gem-set skeletonized movement and a one-minute tourbillon. This high jewelry timepiece is limited to 18 pieces, or should we say 17, now that Kahn possibly has one! The price is not specified for this model, but to give you an idea, the last Billionaire was priced at $20 million.
Alex de Minaur: Jaeger-LeCoultre Tribute Chronograph
Australian professional tennis player Alex de Minaur was photographed on the court recently wearing a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Chronograph in stainless steel. This timepiece comes with a front dial bearing all the hallmarks of the Reverso Tribute line with its blue sunray-brushed dial. On the reverse side, the wearer can enjoy the skeletonized chronograph movement with its Côtes de Genève decorated bridges. The chronograph seconds and minute tracks are highlighted in black for heightened legibility. The watch comes with a blue canvas-and-leather strap, an all-leather strap, and an interchangeable buckle.
