Wedding food has a reputation for being bland. Rubbery chicken, boring side dishes, and basic salads are just a few of the things guests can expect. But every now and then there's a wedding dinner that deviates from the norm—in a bad way. A truly bizarre wedding meal—or lack of thereof—can make you long for a dry chicken breast. And it could open you up to the possibilities of a fast food wedding, or even a cannabis-infused wedding dinner.

We've rounded up some of most hilarious and cringey wedding food stories from the internet. Perhaps they'll inspire you, or make you think twice when planning your own reception.

The Instant Ramen Wedding

In a now-deleted Reddit post that we recently wrote about, a wedding guest was surprised to be served instant ramen at a reception instead of a traditional dinner. "Wedding invite asked 'chicken or fish.' On the day of, all attendees received instant ramen," the post read. Commenters were quick to add that they'd be happy if this was a late-night reception snack, but definitely not a full meal.

A Cake Covered In Swarovski Crystals

A crystal-covered cake sounds cool... that is, until you go to eat it. A Reddit commenter posting in r/weddingshaming said they had to spit out the crystals like seeds.

Is It Okay To Only Have Vegetarian Food?

A bride-to-be took to Reddit to ask the "AmItheA-hole" community if they would be an a-hole for having a vegetarian wedding menu. This wouldn't just be a vegetarian option, but a full vegetarian dinner with no meat dishes. Responses varied, from excitement to concerns over there potentially being more allergens in a vegetarian meal. Many commenters said that the couple should inform guests of the menu ahead of time. We're just curious what the couple finally decided on for their wedding day.

The Only Drink Is Water

There's nothing wrong with a dry wedding, but this couple was planning on only serving water—no juice, no soda, no mocktails. They asked Reddit's AITA community, and most people said yes, they would be the a-hole. "I don't have anything against dry weddings but surely you can offer something other than just water," wrote one commenter.

Subway Sandwiches, Jell-O Shots, and Beer Only

This doesn't sound all that bad, but what about the kids? The wedding guest in a Reddit thread said there were only "three foot Subway subs, jello shots and beers" at the wedding. And there wasn't any juice, soda, or water for all the kids attending. "It was either find a cup in their cabinet and get tap, or make like my aunt and go to the gas station to get us some drinks and cookies because the jello shots were the dessert," they wrote.

Popcorn and Ice Cream...Only

Does popcorn and ice cream make a meal? That depends on what kind of night you're having. But for a wedding, maybe not. In a Reddit thread, a user wrote that they attended a wedding where there was no dinner, just a popcorn and ice cream bar. "The reception was scheduled around dinner time, and there was no previous mention of there not being real food provided on the invites or programs," the user wrote in the post.

No Meal, Just Snacks

In the r/weddingshaming subreddit, a user asked, "What is the worst wedding food you've been served?" It received hundreds of comments, several of which discussed the lack of an actual meal. At one dinnertime reception, cupcakes were the only thing served. Another reception only had punch—that's it. A guest at one wedding said they were served nothing. They were told there would be food trucks, but there weren't. Then a full buffet given to the bridal party—but only them.
