8 tips to fake a fresh face when you've been up all night

Clocks spring forward an hour this Sunday, which means one hour less of sleep and possibly a few more groggy mornings to come as our bodies readjust. However, whether you’re having difficulty catching some z’s or simply decided to stayed up all night binge watching the latest Netflix series, your lack of sleep will often show up on your face.

Lucky for you there are plenty of tips and tricks to make sure no one knows you haven’t had your full eight hours. (To the Netflix it is!)

1. Use something cold on the eyes. When you first wake up your eyes can look a little puffy if you’re tired, so using a product that’s cold can really help to make things look a lot smoother. Some eye products have built in metal rollers that apply product and de-puff at the same time.

2. Use a richer cream than you usually might. Keeping your skin hydrated prevents it from looking tired and run down. Drink a big glass of water and then spend a couple of minutes massaging in a hydrating cream.

3. Consider double concealing — correcting dark circles and then a brightening concealer. A creamy corrector will be more concentrated and work to cancel out the dark shadows. Go for something peachy to brighten your face and add a touch of colour.

4. Add even more radiance with an Illuminating primer. You can use it underneath foundation or mixed in with your usual base to add a healthy sheen to your face.

5. Go pink with blush and lipstick. Pink blusher is one of the quickest ways to look bright eyed and bushy tailed, and a neutral pink lipstick suits everyone and is low-maintenance.

6. Use a champagne shadow all over the lid, as this really helps to brighten the eyes and reduce dark shadows. A champagne shade will also hide any veins or discolouration on the lid without looking like you’re wearing too much makeup.

7. Curl your lashes and use lots of mascara. Fluttery lashes makes your eyes look bigger and more awake. To really enhance this effect, apply a little mascara onto the bottom lashes for a doll-eyed effect.

8. Use a nude eyeliner in the waterline. A creamy nude liner cancels out any redness which is one of the biggest culprits for making you look more tired. Keep one in your bag to top up throughout the day.
