“Aaron Pierre, that’s Mufasa.”

This is the viral chant that emerged from The Jennifer Hudson Show a few weeks ago, as the British actor walked down the studio hallway “spirit tunnel” towards the set. He was there to promote his eponymous role in director Barry Jenkins' live-action Lion King prequel, and quite honestly, the catchy refrain is the only thing that runs through my head when I meet up with the actor at Paris Fashion Week Men's.

That and, “Wow, my 4k upscaling Samsung television hasn’t been deceiving me: his eyes truly are that striking.” But I'm here to do a job, so it's time to focus.

We're very far from Pride Rock, prowling the courtyard of the Louvre. We've just stepped out of an imposing mirrored, Damier-patterned block especially constructed to showcase the Louis Vuitton autumn/winter 2025 men's collection by Pharrell Williams and his long-time artist friend and collaborator, Nigo.

For the season, the duo behind Billionaire Boys Club and ICECREAM has scooped up flavours of noughties streetwear, twentieth-century workwear, Japan (Nigo’s roots), America (Pharrell’s roots), France (Louis’ roots), rock, mod and more, expertly blended it with to-die-for materials and luxurious craftsmanship, sprinkled some glitz on top and designated it modern luxury. Sweet, colourful, moreish: it’s a fashion milkshake.

Despite Pierre’s traditionally conservative sense of style, this runway has helped the 30-year-old south Londoner discover a sartorial sweet tooth.

Beyond its sugar rush, he appreciates that the collection created for the Parisian label is “an artistic manifestation of a friendship for life”. With that, the Brother star smiles (which somehow supplies his eyes with some additional dazzle).

Here's what else the Croydon-born cat had to say as we shivered outside the gallery in Paris.

What are your highlights from the autumn/winter 2025 men's collection we've just seen?

I loved all of the long coats. I’m a big fan of The Matrix, so long coats always give me that energy. I loved what I might describe as the sets – denim top, denim bottom with pearl buttons. I'm fascinated by the attention to detail.

When you attend a show and you’re able to identify things you would wear personally – in a casual setting, in a luxury setting – that’s what inspires a fondness for a fashion house.

Tell me about the outfit you’re wearing tonight

I’m wearing LV's Chic Graphic Damoflage Overshirt, Tailored Wool Flared Trousers and the Agent Chelsea Boots. I think my favourite piece is the Damoflage Overshirt. This is a design that has travelled from Pharrell’s first collection into every collection since. To me, this overshirt radiates quality in a subtle, but definite way.

It’s from Louis Vuitton's spring/summer 2025 collection which was presented at the UNESCO centre in Paris last June. On that note, what's the best place you’ve ever visited?

I have been very fortunate to visit many places, and to have beautiful experiences everywhere I visit. Two of my most beloved trips were to Jamaica and Curaçao – both are part of my heritage and two of my favourite places in the world.

Your chosen attire is black — a colour you’re seemingly comfortable in judging by past red carpets/events. Can you explain your affinity for the colour?

I adore and thoroughly enjoy wearing the colour black. It is centred, grounded, and rich with depth.

Of course, Pharrell is behind the look. Did you grow up on Pharrell's music?

As a millennial, I certainly did listen to much of Pharrell's music. I think he is a phenomenal creative and I’m thrilled that he is now gifting his creativity to the fashion space.

I can’t wait to see what he brings to LV next.

Do you enjoy attending fashion week?

I love attending fashion week, it’s always such a wonderful event and experience. This is my first time visiting Paris in 6 years. I love this city and its energy. I always have a beautiful experience here.

Mufasa: The Lion King has sent you into the stratosphere. If you were to play another Disney character in a live-action remake, who would it be?

There are so many brilliant Disney characters. I don't know which character I would like to play, but I can tell you one of my favourites… Mike Wazowski from Monsters Inc.

What can you tell me about your upcoming role in James Gunn's DC Universe as John Stewart (AKA Green Lantern)?

What I can say is that DC and HBO who are collaborating on the show – we’re all just really thrilled to finally be at the point where we’re about to commence filming. The energy is really high, and really energised. I love the superhero genre. It’s a wonderful opportunity.

John Stewart has a uniform. What’s the Aaron Pierre uniform?

Day-to-day, I think my uniform consists mostly of comfortable, oversized loungewear. I am almost always in sneakers. I love New Balance 9060s. I also always appreciate a great pair of sunglasses.

We will next see you in The Morning Show season four as Miles. Tell us about this new character's wardrobe.

The character Miles is highly fashionable. He has a subtle class to his wardrobe. When I wrapped The Morning Show, the wonderful wardrobe department gifted me a pair of Miles' shoes.

What’s been the most memorable outfit of your career so far?

The Louis Vuitton suit I wore to the London premiere of Mufasa: The Lion King has a very special place in my heart. That was the premiere of a film that is deeply important to me, and I was blessed with the opportunity to celebrate it with the city that raised me.

What are some grooming products you can’t live without/take everywhere with you?

Coconut oil, lip balm, and gum. Basic, I know!
