Ad for wearable translator has tourist trying to kiss girls in Japan

We’re all for alternative marketing but this ad from Japanese startup, Logbar, is a bit much.

It begins with a shot of a British tourist in Tokyo talking about how this new wearable translator is going to help him pick up girls.

“I’m going to try and kiss girls I’ve never met before by using this translation device, iLi,” he says in the video. Seconds later, it’s repeated in Japanese.

The video then follows him through the streets of Tokyo where he approaches a number of girls with cheesy pickup lines before asking them for a kiss. Creepy, no?

While most attempts are met with giggles, one girl actually runs away in horror saying, “no, this is Japan!“ Aanother hits him with her purse and retreats. It’s painful to watch.

Despite his failings, he does manage to land some kisses. One on the cheek and the final shot of the video, a full on lip smack. Maybe she was feeling adventurous.

While the concept of a translator that you can wear definitely sounds cool and probably pretty useful for things other than trying to score, the ad makes its intentions rather questionable. Also, keep in mind that this comes from the same company that brought us what has been called the “worst product ever made.”
