Watch: Couple parody Adele’s ‘Hello’ to express hilarious weight loss struggles

Losing weight is hard. Especially at this time of year when everywhere you turn there’s a cookie exchange or office potluck ready to derail your diet. One couple felt so strongly about their struggle that they decided to put it into song, and the result is just too good.

Using Adele’s popular hit “Hello,” Dustin and Genevieve Ahkuoi switched up the words to reflect their struggles to lose weight.

The song begins with Genevieve running in a field,

“Hello
It’s me.
I’ve avoided you forever while consuming calories.
I love donuts
mac and cheese
They say kale is antioxidants but I’m anti leafy greens”

Next up is Dustin, in a gym,

“Hello
Can you save me?
I’m in calisthenics dreaming ‘bout Netflix and Mickey D’s
When I was younger
These jeans
Used to fit me now my booty’s got them bursting at the seams”

Aside from the witty lyrics, the singing is actually pretty good. And there are lots of great references to dieting tropes like thigh gap, hangry and crossfit fanatics. Our personal favourite line? “And the ice cream truck is the only reason I run, anymore.”

The video already has close to a million views on YouTube and more than 500 comments.

“I am absolutely floored and humbled that the Adele “Hello” parody that Genevieve and I wrote together was shared on Facebook today and has right around 20 Million views right now,” Dustin posted on Facebook. “We’ve received messages from people all across the world which is beautiful.”
