Amazon Prime Day 2020 is just around the corner, and with only a few short days until Amazon unveils their biggest deals of the year, we wanted to take a look back at last year’s event to give you a better idea of what’s in store.

From July 15-16 last year, Amazon shared more than a million exclusive savings with Prime members worldwide. Over the course of two days, Prime members purchased more than 175 million items totalling more than $2 billion of products from independent small and medium-sized businesses.

In Canada, top Prime Day 2019 categories included fashion, beauty, and home, with electronics and personal devices also cracking into the list of top sellers. Excluding devices, some of Canada’s best-selling items included the PlayStation 4 Slim with Spiderman and Horizon Zero Dawn bundle, the LifeStraw Personal Water Filter and 23andMe Health + Ancestry kits.

According to an Amazon press release, more global highlights from last year include:

• Prime members worldwide saved more than one billion dollars throughout Prime Day.

• Members in 18 countries shopped – double the number since the first Prime Day in 2014

• Amazon welcomed more new Prime members on July 15 than any previous day, and almost as many on July 16 – making these the two biggest days ever for member signups.

• Prime Day was the biggest event ever for Alexa devices with screens, such as Echo Show and Echo Show 5.

• Customers purchased 2x as many Fire TV Edition Smart TVs as 2018’s record-setting Prime Day, when comparing two-day periods.

Prime Day 2020 takes place on Oct. 13 and 14, so there’s still time to sign up for a Prime membership and take advantage of all the best deals to come.
