Love McDonald's Chicken Snack Wraps? You're not alone. Recently, a TikTok recipe for an at-home version of this tasty fast food treat went viral — so I decided to put the air fryer recipe to the test and see how it measures up to the real thing.

How to make the TikTok-viral McDonald's Chicken Snack Wrap at home in an air fryer

TikToker Sara, who goes by the handle @nutrientmatters, went viral with this recipe late last year when it was originally posted on TikTok. Since being posted, the video has garnered more than 7 million views.

The best part? The TikToker claims that you only need 20 minutes (or less!) to make the fan-favourite dish.

You can find the full recipe (measurements and all) in the caption of Sara's TikTok video.

To start off, slice your chicken breasts into strips. Then, flatten them out a bit by laying them underneath some plastic wrap and pounding them with a meat tenderizer mallet.

While you set those aside, make the crispy coating by laying out Corn Flakes seasoned with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Crush everything up with your hands and add in some avocado oil to ensure the coating sticks to the crumbs.

Following this step, make the egg wash mixture by mixing white vinegar and sea salt with a couple of eggs, whisking them to combine everything.

Next up, coat the chicken strips with the egg mixture followed by the crispy Corn Flake coating. Once finished, lay all of the coated chicken strips into the air fryer basket, spraying them with some oil before setting them to cook.

Air-fry the chicken strips for 7-8 minutes (or until fully cooked) at 350°F.

When it comes to assembling the wraps, warm up a tortilla and lay down a "good amount" of the mayonnaise mixture (featuring a combination of mayo, mustard, and pickle juice) along with some shredded lettuce and cheese. Then, top everything with one of the cooked chicken strips, wrap and enjoy!

What people are saying

Most commenters from the viral video were eager to try this at-home trend.

However, others offered some criticism based on the recipe's recommended ingredients.

"McDonald's never had mayo on snack wraps," claimed one user.

"It's actually ranch," added another. "[Worked] at McDonald's once upon a time when they had the snack wraps."

Trying the trend: I made the McDonald's Chicken Snack Wrap

I was excited to try this recipe because I actually had a lot of the ingredients at home already. I'm also a big fan of McDonald's Chicken Snack Wraps so this looked like an easy enough way to give it a go. To challenge myself, I decided to try making it in under 20 minutes, as the TikToker claims is possible.

So, I set my 20-minute timer and got to work.

I started off by slicing my chicken into strips as suggested. The recipe recommends using 2 pieces of chicken but I had 3 on hand so I decided to use all of them.

Don't be afraid to modify the recipe slightly to suit your taste or use what you have readily available.

Then, I assembled my sliced chicken strips underneath some plastic wrap, flattening them out a bit with a meat tenderizer mallet. Once complete, I set them aside and started on my breading.

I mixed together the Corn Flakes and seasonings, crushing up all of the breading with my hands afterward to ensure everything was fully combined. Then, I made the egg wash by combining the eggs, white vinegar, and sea salt — whisking it all together to ensure an even mixture.

Finally, I coated all of my chicken strips in the egg mixture, followed by the Corn Flake crumbs. I ensured all of my chicken strips were fully coated before moving on to the next step, which was air-frying them.

I popped all of the chicken strips into the air fryer baskets and set them to air fry for 8 minutes at 350°F while I got started on the toppings.

It's important to note that my 20-minute timer went off right as I was putting the chicken strips into the air fryer — but if I make the recipe again, I might be able to shave a couple of minutes off my time.

In the meantime, I warmed up some tortillas on the stove by heating them in a pan.

When it came to making the mayo mixture that was supposed to go inside the wrap, I combined mayo, mustard and pickle juice (you can also use pickled jalapeño juice instead of pickle juice). Then, I arranged my shredded lettuce and cheddar cheese on the side so everything would be ready to go once my chicken strips were done cooking.

When my chicken strips were golden brown and fully cooked, I placed one on a warm tortilla and topped it with some of the mayo mixture, shredded lettuce and cheddar cheese. Once it was wrapped and ready, I dug in.

Final verdict: Should you try the at-home Snack Wrap?

Overall, I can confirm that this recipe tastes very similar to the OG McDonald's Chicken Snack Wrap. I was pleasantly surprised with the results — and although it took me slightly longer than 20 minutes to fully prep and prepare these wraps, this is still a recipe I would reach for again. They were super easy to make and tasted great.

They were also a hit with my family, who agreed the taste rivalled that of Mickey D's. We all agreed that the chicken coating made the meat nice and crispy while the mayo mixture really complemented the fillings.

Next time, I may take some of the commenters' suggestions into consideration by swapping the mayo mixture for some ranch.

All in all, I'm lovin' this DIY recipe is a definite must-try if you're craving McDonald's Chicken Snack Wraps at home.
