My family loves sweet potatoes. We eat them mashed, baked, pied, and casseroled, so I was really excited to see that ALDI brought back a seasonal favorite. Season’s Choice Sweet Potato Casserole with praline topping can once again be found in ALDI’s freezer section.

What I Love About Season’s Choice Sweet Potato Casserole

If mashed sweet potatoes and pecan pie had a baby, it would be Season’s Choice Sweet Potato Casserole. This ALDI nerd favorite is back in season, and I know some people wait all year for it—it’s that sought-after.

This $4.99 casserole comes in a lovely 22-ounce container that can be baked in the oven or nuked in the microwave. For optimal tasting pleasure, bake this baby. It might take 30 minutes more, but it’s so worth it, as the pecan praline topping gets roasted and crunchy.

The package says there are five servings, but it's more like four if you like sweet potatoes. When you take a bite, you get a lovely hit of sweet potato enhanced by the crunchy praline topping. “The nuts make everything better,” my son says. “They add flavor.”

It’s a delicious sweet potato dish. While it's technically a vegetable dish, it tastes like candy. Its flavor reminds me of sweet potato pie in casserole form with a crunchy praline topping.

Season's Choice Sweet Potato Casserole

  • Price: $4.99 for five servings

  • Why I Love It: This casserole is almost as good as homemade but way less work. It even comes in its own (disposable) baking dish.

I have to say, it’s almost as good as my sister Karen’s sweet potatoes, but not quite (she uses a real vanilla bean to make hers). However, if you don’t want to go to the trouble of making homemade sweet potatoes, and your Thanksgiving won’t be Thanksgiving without them, this is a great addition to your celebration.

If you’re looking for an easy side dish for Thanksgiving, grab a package or two. Make it in the package it comes in, or give it the illusion of homemade goodness by putting it in your own casserole dish. (I won’t tell anyone.)

While this is obviously a seasonal favorite, its uses go beyond the holiday dinner table. Given its sweet profile, I think it would make a great side dish for brunch. And while turkey is usually what this dish is served with, it would also pair nicely with beef tenderloin, roast chicken, and pork chops.
