Growing up in a restaurant, I developed a soft spot for vintage glass ice cream bowls (similar to these) my family used to serve our guests. They had a charming design and sturdy feel, and the ice cream and sundaes always looked so pretty in them.

Years ago, I found a similar set of vintage bowls at a second-hand store, and they quickly became some of my favorite summer serving pieces, but once my kids arrived, those pretty bowls mostly stayed in the cupboard. Feeling more like beautiful accidents waiting to happen, I eventually gave them away to a (thrilled) prop stylist.

So when I found the Crofton Acrylic Ice Cream Bowls at ALDI, my heart skipped a beat. These beauties captured the nostalgic charm of my old glass bowls but in a kid-friendly form. At just $5.99 for a set of four, they're budget-friendly and the perfect solution for reliving beautiful childhood moments with my own kids.

They come in a set of four and are perfectly sized to hold scoops of your favorite frozen treats. Since they're acrylic, they're top-rack dishwasher safe, meaning hassle-free cleanup after your "mom of the year" ice cream social. ALDI also offers a two-pack of matching acrylic milkshake glasses if you want to complete the set.

  • They're nostalgic. Their design brings up childhood memories of eating sundaes at my family's restaurant. I love that I can relive those memories with my little ones without concern that something will get broken.

  • They're kid-friendly and outdoor-ready. A couple of years ago, I created a DIY sundae bar for my daughter's birthday, and these would really suit the vibe when I do it again. Since they're not breakable, these bowls can go where glass can't, like backyard picnics or barbecues, camping trips, and even pool parties. I no longer have to worry about shattered glass injuring little fingers and toes.

  • They're great for grown-up gatherings, too. Of course, I wish I had my vintage bowls for adult gatherings, but these bowls can play dress up, too! For adult events, I can see myself using them to create individual fruit bowls, single-serve veggies and dip, olive and nut appetizers, and for serving nostalgic desserts like mousse, trifle, or banana pudding.

  • They're versatile. While being a cute vehicle for ice cream is their life purpose, their design suits other occasions and meals. They'd be delightful for serving up snacks like nuts, chips, and popcorn during family movie nights. I can also see us using them to hold toppings for our next outdoor taco Tuesday or burger bar. And their size and durability make them great for holding pre-measured ingredients when baking with my kids.

As summer unfolds, I can see myself reaching for these bowls more and more. For a small investment of $5.99, they’ll help me create new core memories that (fingers-crossed) my kids will one day treasure.
