"It's like a totally important designer."
Cher Horowitz's yellow plaid skirt suit from Clueless might be her most recognizable outfit, but it's her red "having a boy over" dress that's arguably the true fashion hero of the film. Short, simple, and sexy, the style still holds up almost 30 years later and is likely something Cher would still wear today. At least, Alicia Silverstone seems to think so.
On Thursday, Silverstone, who played the ditzy Beverly Hills teen in the 1995 cult film, stepped out during New York Fashion Week wearing a grown-up take on the aforementioned red minidress. This time, looking to impress a different Christian, the actress wore a strapless crimson midi-length dress with a corset-like bodice with a sculptural swooping neckline and a ruched skirt to the Christian Siriano fall 2024 runway show. She accessorized simply with diamond jewelry and finished off her red-hot look with a pair of strappy crystal-studded heels.
Like Cher, Silverstone wore her long blonde hair down in tousled waves, but rather than a matching red lip, she opted for a more subtle pink shade.
Silverstone and Siriano previously teamed up to recreate the iconic scene where Cher attempts to seduce her crush (also named Christian) with a TikTok video in 2021. "I finally got Christian in bed," the actress jokingly wrote in the caption of the clip, adding: "Happy #FridayThe13th #Clueless @christiansiriano."
From there, the two developed a close friendship, which saw the designer and the actress collaborate again for a 2023 Super Bowl ad. In a commercial for the e-commerce plugin Rakuten, Siriano upgraded Cher's yellow plaid skirt suit "with a different plaid pattern, a cropped jacket, no cardigan, black shoes, and a more adult version of a pleated miniskirt."
