When it comes to makeup tools, the $26 BeautyBlender pretty much reigns supreme as the method of choice to flawlessly apply foundation, concealer and more. The OG of makeup sponges has racked up a 4.5 star rating on more than 8,200 reviews according to Sephora’s website, but we may have found an affordable alternative that stacks up just as well.

Regularly priced at $19, the Beakey Makeup Sponge Set offers a huge bang for your buck compared to the pricey BeautyBlender. Each set includes five makeup sponges, bringing the cost for a single sponge down to just $3.80, and with a 4.5 star rating on more than 10,000 reviews on Amazon, these makeup sponges have built their own impressive following.

What shoppers are saying

“Why would anyone spend 30 dollars on a beauty blender when you could get 5 of these?” said one reviewer. “I am a certified makeup artist and I have used almost every makeup sponge on the market...this works just as good as all of the others I've tried.”

“These sponges work just as well, if not better, than a [BeautyBlender]. They are larger in size, but I actually like that about them, and they feel more dense than a BB to me,” wrote another. “The pointed end is plenty small enough to get in under your eyes and around your nose. 100% will be buying these again!”

However, if you’re looking for the exact quality of the original, reviewers caution this isn’t a complete match.
”I previously have tried the original [BeautyBlender], the real techniques blender, and a few other knock offs. These sponges are really one of the best alternatives,” another added. “They are not AS soft, and they get reaaaaally big when wet, but they honestly apply product well and I feel they don't swallow too much of the product.”

How to keep them clean

As with any makeup sponge, keeping the Beakey sponges clean is key to maintaining their performance over time.

Using a gentle makeup brush cleanser (baby shampoo also works as an affordable option!), be sure to thoroughly wet the sponge before massaging the soap into soiled areas. Keep rinsing until the water runs away clear from the sponge, then gently wring it out to remove excess moisture.

Pat the sponge dry with a clean towel or paper towel and let it air dry, and you’ll be sure to keep your makeup sponges in the best condition for many uses to come.

If you’re ready to give the Beakey Makeup Sponge Set a try, it’s currently on sale for just $14.
