America Ferrera’s ‘Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants’ Costars Congratulated Her Oscar Nom in the Best Way
After Oscar nominations came out earlier today, America Ferrera—aka a literal national treasure in our book—got a truly heartwarming call from her Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants costars Blake Lively, Amber Tamblyn, and Alexis Bledel.
The actor opened up about the moment the trio congratulated her on nabbing a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her role in Barbie during a convo with Variety and dished that they, "FaceTimed me as a group right away. It’s wonderful to be celebrated and held up by these women who I’ve had the honor of growing up with in the industry." "Every moment feels like another unbelievable pinch-me moment," the celeb added of all the metaphorical flowers she's been given this past awards season. 🥺❤️
During the interview, America also shared that a number of other special people in her life congratulated her on the recognition—a first for the actor, who is already an Emmy winner from her time on the show Ugly Betty: her husband, Ryan Piers Williams, and two children, Sebastian and Lucia. "My publicist got to me first. And then my husband called me from the car as he was driving our kids to school," America told the outlet. "He was screaming and emotional. I heard my kids in the back seat, like, 'What are you screaming about?'"
And because we know you're totally wondering, yes, her Barbie family is also talking about the exciting news: "We’re all in different countries, so there’s a lot of text messaging going on."
Speaking of America's Barbie family...the fact that so many people involved in the project were snubbed for Oscars this year was a surprise to say the least. I mean, here was the general vibe of the sitch once noms were made public this morning:
greta gerwig being snubbed at the #Oscars despite barbie being the ONLY $1 billion movie solely directed by a woman feels VERY sus to me… pic.twitter.com/cjzqkmOzYU

So the whole point of the barbie movie was to empower women and show that we are strong and capable in a very male dominated world, yet the leading actress and director wasn’t nominated for an Oscar???? Tell me you didn’t understand the meaning of the film without telling me. pic.twitter.com/YBA5vt34Om

So Ryan Gosling’s nominated for playing ken but Margot Robbie isn’t nominated for playing barbie… in barbie #Oscars

America herself even opened up about the snub to Variety and said she "was incredibly disappointed that they weren’t nominated."
"Greta [Gerwig] has done just about everything that a director could do to deserve it," the actor mused when speaking about the film's director. "Creating this world, and taking something that didn’t have inherent value to most people and making it a global phenomenon. It feels disappointing to not see her on that list."
As for Margot Robbie—who nabbed a Best Picture nomination for producing Barbie, but not for starring in it—, the actor had this to say: "What Margot achieved as an actress is truly unbelievable. One of the things about Margot as an actress is how easy she makes everything look. And perhaps people got fooled into thinking that the work seems easy, but Margot is a magician as an actress in front of the screen, and it was one of the honors of my career to get to witness her pull off the amazing performance she did. She brings so much heart and humor and depth and joy and fun to the character. In my book, she’s a master."
Justice for the whole Barbie cast, TBH!
