You can scratch Italian Christmas cookies off the list of holiday cookies people secretly hate. According to Google Trends' 2024 "Christmas Cookies Map," these festive treats emerged as the most searched Christmas cookie across the highest number of states this year.

Seven of out of fifty states had Italian Christmas cookies as the most uniquely searched holiday cookie in 2024, making it the most popular throughout the country. Other (less) popular cookies include gingerbread, sugar, and oddly enough, buche de noel, which isn't even a cookie. Curious.

The Italian Christmas cookie, which is called Angletti (and translates to little angels) in Italian—as its name implies—traces its origins back to Southern Italy. It's a festive staple at many households around the country over the holiday season (unless, of course, you're Teresa Giudice).

It's unsurprising that festive cookies dominate the cookie map, but chocolate, to our shock, is very underrepresented. Only four states picked a chocolate-flavored cookie as their holiday cookie of choice, and again, one isn't even a cookie (brownies, we're looking at you). Interestingly, both kitchen sink and Christmas kitchen sink cookies monopolize numerous states on the map, which makes us wonder, what exactly sets the two apart? We've got quite a few questions for these Google searchers. But one thing's for sure
—we've got a lot of baking to do.
