Blake Shelton Asked Gwen Stefani’s Sons for Permission Before Proposing to Her

From Woman's Day

Last week, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani shed a bright light on 2020, announcing their engagement with a sweet Instagram post. “Yes please,” Stefani captioned the photo, showing off her stunning engagement ring.

According to People, the country star proposed to his girlfriend of five years at his ranch in Tishomingo, Oklahoma. But before Shelton popped the question, he had an important task to complete: getting the approval from Stefani’s sons Kingston, 14, Zuma, 12, and Apollo, 6, whom she shares with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale.

“Blake told her boys that he wanted to propose and asked their permission,” a source close to Stefani told People. “Her family very much approves of him. He’s an amazing partner and a great extra dad to the boys. Gwen is ecstatic. The proposal was a surprise.”

Stefani has previously opened up about Shelton’s relationship with her kids. In June, she shared multiple photos to Instagram of Shelton with her three boys for Father’s Day.

“Happy Father’s Day @blakeshelton. Thank you for helping me raise these boys!! #weloveyou! G❤️K❤️Z❤️A,” she captioned the post.

The couple met five years ago as coaches on NBC’s The Voice and have been inseparable ever since. Rumors of marriage swirled in recent years leading up to their engagement. In a September 2019 interview on Today, Stefani was asked if Shelton would be a good father.

“He is a good dad, actually,” she replied. “He’s been helping me out a lot, so I literally get to the point where I’m like, ‘You gotta get home, I need help.’ It’s hard. I got three boys.”

Shelton is fond of them, too. He’s shared special shoutouts for their birthdays to Instagram, and he even admitted to People that he missed the boys while they were at school

“They’re so damn funny,” Shelton said. “It’s just my first time being around it, and it’s easy to fall in love with those kids. They’re pretty special.”

Looks like their blended family is tight as can be! We’re so happy for the couple, and it seems like Apollo, Kingston, and Zuma are, too.
