Andra Day Dressed Like an Actual Academy Award With a High-Slit Gown

Awards season is coming to a close (until next year, that is), and Andra Day made sure that it'd be a memorable one, whether or not she takes home an award tonight. She's up for Best Actress for her role in The United States vs. Billie Holiday. She's competing against Viola Davis, Frances McDormand, Vanessa Kirby, and Carey Mulligan.

"We're just sharing this space, we are representing multiple stories, and we are loving on each other. I'm celebrating them, rooting for them," Day told People.

Day arrived at the ceremony wearing a metallic gold custom Vera Wang Haute Couture cutout gown with a next-level slit that left her entire right leg exposed. She wore her hair in a high bun and accessorized with gold dangling earrings, a jewel-encrusted chain-link bracelet, and a series of glittering rings.

Day made history at the Golden Globes for her role, as well. She became the second Black woman, ever, to win the award for Best Actress - Drama, after Whoopi Goldberg won the award for her role in The Color Purple back in 1987.

"When I embarked on it, I was like, 'This is such a bad idea! I'm not an actress.' And I didn't wanna ruin Billie's legacy," Day told The New York Post. "But now I can look back and say, 'You know what? Maybe this was supposed to be.'"
