Anne Hathaway dives into the Valentino archives for this year's Fashion Awards
Anne Hathaway made an elegant appearance at the 2023 Fashion Awards – and she chose a piece of fashion history for the occasion.
The actress walked the red carpet at the Royal Albert Hall in London as a guest of Valentino chair and co-founder Giancarlo Giammetti, who was accepting the Outstanding Achievement Award on behalf of the legendary designer Valentino Garavani.
For the occasion, Hathaway wore one of Garavani's vintage creations: an ivory gown from the Valentino autumn/winter 1993 collection. It featured ribbed details creating geometric shapes, an elegant off-the-shoulder neckline, short cap sleeves and a layered tulle skirt embellished with delicate white pearls.
Hathaway added some sparkle courtesy of a Bulgari choker necklace embellished with a rose-shaped charm, also covered in diamonds. She finished the look with diamond drop earrings and a large diamond ring, both also from Bulgari. The star’s glam – sparkly light pink eye shadow, a glossy lip, rosy cheeks, and a glazed French manicure – perfectly matched her sophisticated ensemble and her sleek blow-dry.
Those with a keen fashion eye may recognise Hathaway's dress of choice for the red carpet. The actress Ashley Judd wore the style back in 2000, to the CFDA Awards, where she presented designer Valentino Garavani with an award. Anne's decision to wear it again was a thoughtful nod to the man who was being celebrated for his life's work last night.
Hathaway wasn't the only celebrity to opt for an archive Valentino design at the 2023 Fashion Awards. Gwyneth Paltrow wore a red feathered dress from the fashion house's 1965 couture collection, paired with a matching textured coat. She finished her look with shimmering jewellery from the same decade, with a Van Cleef & Arpels bracelet and earrings, from 1965 and 1968 respectively.
Guests at the Royal Albert Hall were also treated to a very special fashion show during the award ceremony, featuring a series of vintage Valentino Garavani dresses – all in his signature 'Valentino red'.
