Anne Hathaway's elegant Gap shirtdress is now available to buy
Anne Hathaway made a classic shirtdress look like the ultimate red-carpet staple last night, when she stepped out in Rome.
The actress was seen exiting the luxurious Bulgari Hotel in the Italian capital in a fresh all-white ensemble. The centrepiece of the look was a long, crisp, white custom shirtdress designed by Gap Inc. creative director Zac Posen. The collared, sleeveless piece featured beige buttons down the centre — the bottom half of which Hathaway left unbuttoned.
"We created a modern look that pays homage to the elegance of Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday," Posen said in a press release. "It's a connection of timeless style with contemporary fashion."
Shortly after Hathaway debuted the design, Gap listed the dress for sale in the US – and it swiftly sold out. No word yet on whether it will be restocked, or available to purchase in the UK.
While the floor-length dress could be a piece one wore on the beaches of Cannes or the streets of New York City in spring, Hathaway gave it the ultimate red-carpet spin by layering it over a sheer white corseted bodysuit. The strapless corset had a cupped bra, white boning, and a see-through bodice. Hathaway continued the monochrome scheme with pointed white pumps.
But what truly elevated the ensemble was her Bulgari jewellery: a dazzling white diamond choker with a giant sapphire in the middle, plus matching diamond cluster earrings, a wraparound diamond bracelet, and some diamond and sapphire rings. She wore glowing, pink-hued make-up and a glossy nude manicure, while her dark hair was down in silky waves.
Hathaway was in town to attend the runway show and launch of Bulgari’s Aeterna High Jewellery Collection in the Italian city — an event that also marked the brand’s 140th anniversary.
Hathaway has been on a stylish world tour as she continues to promote her new romantic comedy film The Idea of You. Just last month, she turned heads in a vibrant candy-apple red corset gown with daring cutouts, at the premiere of her film in New York City.
