This 'universally flattering' Anthropologie dress went viral — and it now comes in silk & velvet
As someone who spends a great deal of their workweek perusing the internet for pretty things, I feel like I have the (unofficial) authority to declare that this season's hottest style is Anthropologie's Somerset Maxi Dress.
Now, if the name Somerset sounds familiar, it's because it probably is. The cult-favourite Anthropologie frock was one of the summer's most sought-after styles, earning the approval of thousands of shoppers and one of our very own Yahoo Canada editors.
Back for fall, Anthropologie released the Somerset in a handful of new fabrics and prints, including a "universally flattering" silk-like version.
To learn why shoppers have dubbed the $170 style their "go-to outfit" and take a closer look at the unofficial dress of the year, scroll below.

The details
Anthropologie's Somerset Maxi Dress is the retailer's "bestselling" and "best reviewer dress, ever." The versatile style has been dubbed the dress equivalent of the "Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants," thanks to its V-neck design and figure-flattering smocked waist.
The Somerset is available in petite, regular and plus sizes — and currently comes in nine colour options, including black, slate, and magenta. While the cotton version of the maxi dress went viral this past summer, its autumn/winter rendition is made from a silky, smooth fabric, perfect for fall.
For those who aren't fans of the maxi look or would prefer one of the brand's famous printed styles, the Somerset collection includes mini dresses and varying lengths of skirts: Click here to see them all.
'My go-to outfit'
Having been dubbed Anthropologie's "bestselling, best-reviewed dress ever," it's no wonder the $170 style has earned dozens of rave reviews and an average rating of 4.4 stars.
It's a "beautiful, soft and very flattering dress," according to one shopper. "I prefer the material on this Somerset [compared to] the cotton version," they write. "This dress falls beautifully."
If you're looking for a dress that's "not too frou-frou, this is it," writes another. It's "sophisticated" and can be worn "casually or dressy."
"I've styled it a dozen different ways, and I love how it can be changed up," they write. "It's my go-to outfit."
"Ladies, this dress was legit amazing," lauds a third shopper. "Between the silk-like fabric, how it hugged my curves and flowed in the wind — I felt like a million bucks...and my thought so boyfriend too!"
It's "such a classic dress [that] I had no issues with the price tag because I know for sure I'll be wearing it again," they add.
'Universally flattering'
While most Anthropologie shoppers agree the style is "universally flattering" and gives the illusion of an "hourglass" figure, some mention that the silk-like fabric "wrinkles super quick."
