Antoine Arnault to Receive Legion of Honor for Contribution to Olympic Games

GOOD SPORTS: LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton’s “Mr. Olympics” Antoine Arnault is one of 58 people to be rewarded for their contribution to last summer’s Olympic Games in Paris with the attribution of the honorary title of Knight of the Legion of Honor, France’s highest civilian decoration.

The special list of those to be decorated for their involvement in the sporting event comes in addition to France’s New Year’s honors list, which saw Arnault’s sister Delphine, chairman and chief executive officer of Dior, as well as Dior’s menswear designer Kim Jones, knighted.

Published Thursday, the list includes Carrefour CEO Alexandre Bompard; Thomas Jolly, who was the artistic director for the outdoor opening ceremonies for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and a number of athletes, politicians and civil servants. Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo was promoted to the rank of Officer of the Legion of Honor.

Antoine Arnault, LVMH’s head of communication, image and environment, was instrumental in LVMH’s role as premium partner of the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games. The luxury conglomerate was involved in a number of aspects of the sporting competition, from the medals designed by jeweler Chaumet, the outfits for Team France designed by Berluti for the opening ceremonies, and the uniforms, medal trays and trunks produced by Louis Vuitton. Both Dior and Vuitton played prominent roles in the extravagant opening ceremony.

“Athletes and sports today convey values of excellence, passion and high standards, which echo those of our craftsmen who, every day, carry out each gesture with precision to produce the world’s most beautiful products,” Arnault told WWD last July.
