Ariel Winter is starting the next chapter of her career with a bold new look.

The 21-year-old actress marked the end of her turn on “Modern Family” by ditching her natural dark hair colour in favour of an eye-catching shade of red.

The almost-unrecognizable actress walked the red carpet at Entertainment Weekly’s Upfront Party in New York, sporting a black jewel encrusted strapless dress gown and silver heels.

While Winter is in full swing promoting the 11th and final season of the ABC comedy, the star has been busy fielding criticism for her noticeably smaller frame.

Earlier this month, the actress took to Instagram to defend herself after receiving comments that accused her of having “obvious” plastic surgery.

“How many surgeries have you had on your body and face now,” one follower wrote. “Two breast reductions, that’s obvious, cheek bone and chin shaving and lip fillers. Pretty obvious, she looks so different #Truth.”

“I wasn’t going to reply but I HAVE to ask...what the f-ck is cheek bone and chin shaving?,” Winter replied. “You’re also wrong about all of it by the way. One breast reduction and I lost weight but you do you, boo.”

The former child star has been vocal about her appearance, revealing to fans that her fluctuating weight was due in part to taking medication for her mental health, and not drugs as some speculated.

“Yes!! My psychiatrist switched me from my previous antidepressants that didn’t work and made me gain weight to coke/meth,” Winters sarcastically wrote to one critic. “Definitely not a new one that worked and then regulated my metabolism. Coke/meth was a controversial decision but she stands by it.”

The young actress went on to reveal that while the weight loss was “unexpected,” she has finally found an antidepressant that works for her, and has her feeling “better mentally.”

Feeling good, looking good and looking towards the future. What more could a girl want?
