Because it’s the start of the new year, you might be thinking it’s time for a kitchen refresh — out with the old and in with the new, after all! While it’s fun to keep up with the latest interior design trends, following them also means that your space can quickly feel outdated. Finding the perfect balance between trendy and timeless can be tricky, so I asked seven experts for their opinion on the biggest kitchen design trends worth following this year — and trust me, it’s going to be a good one.

2025 Is All About Rich Tones, Warmth, and Personality in the Kitchen

Expect to see pops of color in deeper tones everywhere this year. Rich colors all over the room will be at the forefront of kitchen design vision boards in 2025, emphasized Laura Chappetto, owner and principal designer of Element Design Network. “What is really exciting to me is a shift towards more personality in kitchens this year,” says Chappetto.

Think: moody and dramatic colors like burgundy and dark green, which also look great contrasted against lighter tones or bright pops of color, which is exactly what Maura Clark and Camila Chicarelli, principal designers of Rude Haus, are doing.

“We think things are going to keep pushing deeper into moody tones,” says Clark. “We saw some of that last year, but it still feels relevant. Our studio is starting to mix moody tones with an unexpected light or bright pop (think: deep cherry with a spark of a muted lime).”

And this isn’t just for the walls or kitchen decor — Janelle Patton, principal designer at Lark Interiors, said to expect kitchen cabinet colors to get a vibrant makeover, too, ranging from burgundy to navy to sage green. Conversely, all-white kitchens and millennial gray are officially out for 2025, designers say.

How to Revamp Your Kitchen with Moody Tones and Warm Textures

If you want to add a splash of color to your cabinets without fully committing, Chicarelli suggests changing up small cabinet details, like painting the edges a unique color or adding micro trim. “It’s a way to add a splash without making a huge statement across the entire space,” she says.

While bold colors and designs are fun, Emily Thomsen, a design associate for Sagrada Studio, says that incorporating natural materials like wood and stone are really going to up the warmth and add that timeless feel in the new year. “Stick with natural materials like wood and stone for most of the space — they age well,” she says. “If you want to add trendy touches, keep them smaller, like with lighting or a backsplash.”

Tara Lewis, trend expert and vice president of consumer expansion at Yelp, says searches for natural stone countertops have surged as people turn to “designs that feel both calming and cutting-edge.” This year’s annual Yelp Trend Forecast predicts more emphasis on incorporating natural elements into design, like natural stone and fluted wood panels.

If you’re doing a bigger overhaul of your space, marble with deep, rich veining in various colors on a backsplash or countertop are another great way to incorporate natural elements, says Cyndy Cantley of Cantley & Company. “We are seeing dramatically veined natural stone countertops in green and red tones, and they are unbelievably stunning,” emphasized Chappetto.

If you decide that bright colors aren’t for you, cabinetry in warmer and deeper wood tones are also on-trend this year, and are sure to remain timeless for decades to come. As far as switching up your kitchen design for the new year, Lewis recommends keeping it simple and sticking to personal preference, when in doubt. “Always remember what is in today will be out tomorrow. Only do things you have always loved or things that can be easily changed in a day or two.”
