Avril Lavigne recreates iconic album cover 20 years later: 'Have you aged?'
Avril Lavigne gave fans a blast from the past.
On Tuesday, the 37-year-old singer-songwriter took to TikTok to post a video of herself recreating her iconic "Let Go" album cover 20 years later.
In the clip, the punk princess walked out into a busy street in New York City, with cars and pedestrians bustling about. She stopped in the middle of the road and posed with her hands crossed and head tilted toward the ground — just as she did for her debut 2002 album — while "I'm Just a Kid" by Simple Plan played in the background.
"20 years later…" she captioned the ten-second video.
To recreate the look, Lavigne wore a leather trench coat, long black pants and chunky black boots. For glam, the star rocked her signature smoky eye with heavy eyeliner while her pin-straight dip-dyed strands fell to her midsection.
Fellow celebrities and fans loved the playful video, which has been played 13 million times as of Wednesday.
"This is amazing! Happy 20th anniversary!" wrote fellow Canadian musical act Simple Plan.
"Oh, the good ol' days," commented a fan. "This album was a staple for a generation."
"My heart! I remember listening to this in my bedroom in middle school. Has it really been 20 years already?" asked another.
"Have you aged? You look the same as you did in 2002!" joked a follower.
"This is the reenactment I didn't know I needed," wrote another.
The multi-platform artist and Juno award winner is currently on the American leg of her "Love Sux" tour with fellow artist Machine Gun Kelly.
Speaking to Euphoria Magazine, the Belleville, Ont.-native expressed her gratitude with how her fans have stuck with her over the course of her career.
"I still today literally know the same fans that have been at the shows from day one," she said. "A lot of them were in the front row and are still in the front row. How lucky am I to have a fanbase? People really connected with my music then, and still do to this day. I feel so grateful."
