Avril Lavigne received a special award at the 2019 ARDYs.
Formerly known as the Radio Disney Music Awards, The ARDYs: A Radio Disney Music Celebration, presented the Canadian pop star with the Shero Award after performing a medley of some of her greatest hits.
“It’s really special,” Lavigne told reporters on the red carpet. “Disney’s been so supportive [throughout] my whole career. To get this award, it’s such an honour because it’s about women’s empowerment, and I just want to say that I hope to encourage people with my story, my music and my song lyrics, and inspire young women of all ages to follow their dreams.”
The award comes after Lavigne made her triumphant return to music after revealing she was diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2015.
Lavigne took to the stage with a special performance of her mega hits, “Sk8er Boi” and “Complicated” as well as her latest singles, “Head Above Water” and “Dumb Blonde.”
The 34-year-old arrived on the red carpet looking like pop royalty in a caped floral jumpsuit with a plunging neckline.
