Ayo Edebiri finishes a chic 70s 'fit with funky socks and sandals
How are we well into June and it's *still* not open-toe weather? Rather than risk freezing our tootsies off, we've instead been wearing our fashion trainers and cowboy boots on rotation. We've even considered digging out our winter boots again. Hey, if I Kissed A Girl's Amy Spalding can make boots work for summer, so can we.
Luckily, Ayo Edebiri just came through with the ultimate style hack we're planning to copy immediately. Sure, she may be best known for her role as Chef Sydney in The Bear, but off-screen the 28-year-old actress (who we're sorry to say is not actually Irish) has been forging something of a fashionista rep for herself after wowing on many a red carpet and making her Met Gala debut last month.
Currently on the press tour for Inside Out 2 that sees Ayo lend her voice to the animated sequel, she was seen IRL out in New York in a very chic '70s fashion-inspired outfit.
The Dries van Noten ensemble consisted of an oversized white and brown striped button-down shirt layered under a turquoise sequinned vest and paired with a psychedelic swirl-printed brown satin midi skirt. But it was her footwear that really caught our attention. Ayo wore mid-calf socks decorated in a purple and white geometric pattern with brown sculptural heeled sandals that featured a toe loop and laced up her ankles.
Gold cat-eye sunglasses completed the look that was a masterclass in texture and pattern clashing. Not to mention all the inspo we need to finally reach for our own summer footwear. From walking sandals to wedges, we'll be following Ayo's lead and adding a pair of socks. The funkier the better to make sure it translates as an ~intentional~ choice.
