BabyCenter releases list of names 'heading for extinction' in 2025: See full list
Catherine, Jaden, Anne, Phillip, Jamal and Esteban are some of the names that we'll be seeing less of in 2025, a new survey by BabyCenter has revealed. Other names falling in popularity include Edward, Erin, Kelsey, Cannon and Emery.
"To kick off 2025, BabyCenter looked at the names that are sharply declining in popularity and could be headed for extinction this year," the company said in a news release Thursday. "These are the names we expect to see much less of this year as Generation Beta babies are born."
BabyCenter said the names were determined "due to their having the biggest declines in name registrations between 2023 and 2024."

Millennial, royal family-inspired names on their way out
Baby name trends that witnessed a decline were millennial names such as Erin, Kelsey, Chelsea, Kendra, Alexis, and Taylor that were all the rage when the millennials were born in the 1980s and 1990s, BabyCenter noted, adding they are "no longer being registered in large numbers today."
Names inspired by members of the royal family, such as Catherine, Anne, Phillip, Albert and Edward also saw a drop, with each of them falling more than 100 spots.
"Catherine experienced the largest drop here, plummeting 221 places," the news release said.
Some names losing popularity: 'Jaded on Jaden'
For boys, Jaden, a "highly popular" name, saw a sharp decline in popularity.
"Parents are jaded on Jaden," BabyCenter said. "The once highly popular and emblematic '-aden' name for boys peaked at No. 62 in 2002. After a steep decline of 162 spots last year, the name now sits at No. 433."
Jaden isn't only the name that is losing popularity. Some popular nicknames, including Danny (Daniel), Andy (Andrew), Liv (Olivia), Billy (William), and Katie (Kaitlyn) are also on their way out, BabyCenter said.
