Bedsidedrama Spring 2017 RTW

Bedsidedrama is a brand that has been around for 10 years, but this season marked its first runway show and its first time participating in Tokyo Fashion Week. Designers Emi Nishimoto and Hiroshi Tanida imagined a dreamland, with their models moving serenely between white swings and window frames suspended from the ceiling.

The show started on a somewhat weird note, with two models in a shared nightgown that made them look like conjoined twins. Even their hair was braided together. After this, there continued to be lots of loungewear and pajamalike looks, from soft jersey rompers to leggings, blouson tops, T-shirt dresses and sweatshirts in pastel prints.

The clothes, simple in silhouette and far from exciting, were accessorized with stuffed animals, elaborate headpieces, parasols, hand puppets and even a giant bouquet of baby’s breath. But even with these humorous additions, the show felt long and about halfway through many pieces were being repeated in different colors. Nishimoto and Tanida would have benefitted from a good, hard edit.
