It’s the holiday season, which means it’s also hangover season.

From holiday parties to egg nog-soaked family dinners and of course, New Year’s Eve, there are so many excuses to indulge.

Unlike overeating, the other dreaded holiday vice, drinking too much can make you look exactly how you feel: ill. The main cause is dehydration — when your skin is thirstier than a desert wolf, blood vessels start to constrict, which results in dull, sickly looking skin.

If you suffer from a skin condition like rosacea, drinking alcohol can trigger flare-ups as well. At the risk of being a Debbie Downer, long-term heavy drinking can speed up the signs of aging, causing fine lines and wrinkles. Just saying.

That being said, alcohol has become a normal part of celebrating and it’s not realistic to abstain at every party. And despite attempts to control ourselves in the midst of an open bar, mistakes will be made. You’ve probably made those mistakes the night before a big job interview or brunch with the family and tried desperately to conceal the evidence.
