The Best Room At... The Connaughtcourtesy The Connaught

The Connaught has been a Mayfair destination since 1897, and its elegance and dedication to excellence make the hotel as appealing to visitors today as it was over a century ago. Its prime location on Carlos Place, nestled in one of London's most prestigious neighborhoods, places guests at the epicenter of the capital's finest offerings—just a stone's throw from Hyde Park, Bond Street, art galleries, and cultural institutions.

This storied address, with its Jacobean Renaissance architecture and Portland stone facade, has long been the home away from home for travelers seeking a haven of discreet luxury. Here, the bustle of London fades away, replaced by an atmosphere of tranquility that has attracted royalty, statesmen, and cultural luminaries for generations.

In addition to the hotel's 121 rooms and suites, designed by Guy Oliver, The Connaught is home to an excellent collection of dining and wellness experiences. These include Hélène Darroze's eponymous three-Michelin-starred restaurant, the London outpost of Jean-Georges, the Connaught Bar (where mixologists craft bespoke cocktails in an atmosphere that blends Art Deco glamour with contemporary flair), and the Aman Spa.

We asked general manager Sandeep Bhalia about his favorite room and what makes it so special.

What do you consider to be the best room at the property and why?

Our new one-of-a-kind suite, the King’s Lodge, is a favorite of mine. It brings to life a collaboration between Guy Oliver, one of our longtime interior design partners, and Turquoise Mountain, a charity founded by His Majesty King Charles III, that supports artisans across the Levant, Afghanistan, Myanmar, and India. We have a longstanding history with Turquoise Mountain and Guy, having collaborated more than a decade ago to unveil the Prince’s Lodge, another beautiful suite. The King’s Lodge is singular in every sense. The craftsmanship is truly remarkable and represents the work of artisans who we commissioned for each element. Exquisite details are discovered around every corner – intricate woodwork made in Jordan by Syrian artisans, handwoven carpets from Afghanistan, fabrics from Myanmar, carved marble panels from India, and more. The suite is a true work of art in its own right.

How much does it cost per night?

$3,900 including VAT.

How would you describe the guests and vibe at the hotel?

The Connaught is the epitome of timeless, discreet luxury, blending refined English historical charm with a contemporary aesthetic. It is a haven of fine art, and impeccable service, where our goal is to offer guests extraordinary service levels from the moment they arrive. While the hotel is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the city, there is always an inviting energy throughout the property, where guests gather for conversations over a meal at our world-class restaurants, or a drink at one of our bars, including The Connaught Bar, which is recognized among the best in the world.

What’s a local attraction that you always recommend?

We always encourage our guests to pop by The Connaught Patisserie to pick up a coffee and take a stroll through our neighboring Mount Street Gardens, just a stone's throw away from our front door. A rare oasis particularly in spring when the flowers are in bloom.
