The Best Room At... Soho Beach House Miami
For as long as I can remember, the first night of Art Basel week ends at Soho Beach House Miami. The traveling caravan of art world professionals flitting from fair to fair has just got into town, the convention center hasn't even opened yet, but it's already time to blow off some steam in anticipation of the mayhem to come. Dealers, advisers, artists, even collectors, they all convene here for a beachside hang with a side of intelligence gathering and gossip. The routine begins anew today, perhaps with a little bit more Grey Goose flowing than usual considering the mixed state of the art market. Tonight alone, Soho House is hosting four events, including a Tent House Session with DJ Eli Esobar by the ocean. Will Leonardo DiCaprio make an appearance as in years past? How about native son Jeff Bezos? The unofficial kickoff party usually draws a devoted crew of boldfaced names looking to pre-game before wheeling and dealing in earnest over the course of the week. Invariably, they will end up here often, to power dine at Cecconi's or dance at a familiar spot—the New York club Jean's is taking over the beach tent on Tuesday night. It's fitting that all roads should lead to an Art Deco jewel that first opened on Collins Avenue in 1941, back when it was called the Sovereign Hotel. Over the years, it's seen many a blowout. Its walls can't talk, but Philip Spee, Regional Director of Operations—Central and Miami, can, and here he shares his tips for making it out of Miami Art Week in one piece.

Tell me about the history of the property, how it’s evolved, and where it fits in the global footprint of Soho House.
Soho Beach House Miami is a modern House steeped in history, combining the restoration and retrofit of the historic Sovereign Hotel from the 1940s with a 15-story oceanfront tower. Transformed in 2010, we embraced the Art Deco heritage of Miami while infusing our signature Soho House style, blending vintage Cuban charm with modern creativity. The space became a natural extension of Miami’s vibrant energy—a place where artists, filmmakers, and creatives can connect and feel at home, with a rooftop pool, screening room, and eclectic design that invites both relaxation and inspiration. As one of our first U.S. locations to combine a members' club with bedrooms, it has become a cultural hub for creatives in the city.
What is one feature of the hotel that you think first-time visitors will find surprising?
The Soho House Global Art collection is unique in that each House is curated with intention, presenting artworks with real cultural currency and impact. The Soho House collection now includes over 10,000 artworks globally and thrives due to strong relationships with contemporary artists. As evolving environments, part of the curatorial practice entails refreshing the art collections. Guests at Soho Beach House Miami can expect a new collection in 2025, marking the first time a photography-focused collection will bring together some of the most dynamic names working today.
To say that there's tough competition on the fine dining front in Miami these days is an understatement. What's unique about the food program at Soho Beach House Miami?
From casual bites by the pool to refined plant-based dishes, Soho Beach House Miami has a food offering created for different members' needs and inspired by the local food scene. Members and guests can enjoy local favorites like the Dirty Vegan Burger, a plant-based take on the House’s classic burger, or the Snapper, served with coconut rice, cherry tomatoes, and a hint of citrus. Pair it with a Risky Business cocktail, featuring vodka, ume plum, maraschino, rhubarb, and black tea, or try one of our new non-alcoholic cocktails for a refreshing, alternative option. Our Northern Italian restaurant, Cecconi’s, is open to members and the public. Located in the courtyard, it’s a sunny spot for an aperitivo, a wood-fired pizza, or handmade pasta. A favorite in Miami is the prawns, with garlic, chili, and lemon.
What sights, shops, and restaurants near Soho Beach House Miami should visitors check out this year?

What’s in store for Art Basel week and, looking ahead, for 2025?
During Art Week, Soho Beach House Miami will host a selection of panels, events, parties and beachfront activations. In collaboration with brands such as Porsche, Grey Goose, Patron and La Croix, the Beach Tent at Soho Beach House will host a DJ set by Bob Moses, a performance by singer-songwriter Amaarae, and a plethora of Art Talks with figures like Marguerite Humeau, Bisa Butler, Rose Marie Cromwell, Typoe, Hebru Brantley, Perez Art Museum Miami's Chief Curator Gilbert Vicario, and Serpentine's Artistic Director Hans Ulrich Obrist. Additionally, there will be immersive experiences that blend visual art, music and culture, such as Jon Key's rooftop mural. A recurring event, which is a favorite among our artists, is our annual Artists’ Lunch, bringing together artists from the global collection to celebrate their contributions in our Houses. This year, we're expecting stars from our London, Paris, Rome, New York, Miami, Mexico City, Los Angeles, Nashville and Chicago collections, as well as from our newly opened locations in Portland and São Paulo. Miami Pool House will host its own slate of events. Notably, Soho House's Chief Art Director Kate Bryan will host a talk and tour with Art Collection Manager Anakena Paddon on site, sharing a deep dive into the curation process. Looking ahead to 2025, we want to continue designing experiences that allow our members to engage with cultural moments and the creative community in an impactful way.
