Beyoncé's Daughter Rumi Could Be the Next Knowles-Carter Family Member to Win a Grammy
She's following in Blue Ivy's footsteps.
Happy Beyoncé album release day to who celebrate! The pop star released COWBOY CARTER, her highly anticipated follow-up to Renaissance, on March 29 to the delight of BeyHive members. The set contained a list of high-profile collaborations, with appearances from Miley Cyrus, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, and more, but perhaps the most wholesome feature was a cameo from Bey's six-year-old daughter, Rumi Carter.
Rumi appeared on track four from the project, titled "Protector" — for those that have yet to listen (WYD??), it's right after single "16 Carriages" — and provided the track's intimate, opening audio message. "Mom, can I hear the lullaby? Please?" Rumi asks her mother before the track launches into acoustic guitar work.
"Protector" serves as a sweet reminder from Beyoncé to her children (which also includes Rumi's twin brother, Sir, and their big sister, Blue Ivy) that she will support them in every stage of their lives. "And I will lead you down that road if you lose your way/ Born to be a protector/ Even though I know someday you're gonna shine on your own/ I will be your projector," she sings on the chorus of the track.
With Rumi's feature on "Protector," she now has the chance to be nominated for a Grammy award. If it seems like a tall feat, don't worry — Blue Ivy was the first to start the tradition of Bey's children fulfilling their destiny as musical prodigies.
In 2021, Blue won her first Grammy award in the Best Music Video category for her singing on and featuring her mother's music video for "Brown Skin Girl" at just nine-years-old. (The achievement also made Blue the second youngest person to ever win a Grammy.) Should COWBOY CARTER or "Protector" win a Grammy, Rumi will be the second of Beyoncé's three children to earn a golden of gramophone before they turn 18.
Sir, you're up next!
