Billie Eilish Stuns In Sheer Simone Rocha At The 2023 Met Gala
Cementing her role as a red carpet star, Billie Eilish has stunned at 2023's Met Gala.
Eilish nailed the ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’ theme in a black, lace gown by Irish designer Simone Rocha.
The high-necked dress was made with completely repurposed fabrics, patch-worked together to create a lace edged tulle dress and tinsel cotton tweed harness with embellished hips in jet crystal. She paired the gothic gown with hand beaded jet crystal cluster tulle gloves and stockings.
'I was inspired by Billie herself, her talent, her world, and her powerful femininity, ' Simone Rocha said of designing this custom look for Elish. 'I wanted to celebrate her femininity through fragility and strength. Working with fragile tulle and edging it in lace, interpreting embellishment as armour, and creating a look which reflected an emotion, a very layered piece revealing what lies beneath…'
The 21-year-old was famed for her genderless and oversized style as she rose to prominence, but for her last two visits to the Costume Institute's steps Eilish has opted for corseted creations.
In 2021, she met the 'In America: A Lexicon of Fashion' theme with a peach, 1950s-style gown by Oscar De La Renta.
Wearing her hair in a vintage-inspired blonde crop and with a heavy smokey eye, fans were shocked with the 'Happier Than Ever' singer's transformation.
The next year, for 2022's 'In America: An Anthology of Fashion' theme, she kept the same energy, wowing in a Regency-inspired corseted gown by Gucci.
Featuring lace and a corsage, the gown was made from entirely upcycled waste materials.
To contrast the champagne and aqua dress the Oscar winner wore a punky up-do with kohl-rimmed eyes.
As well as a songwriter, performer and style star, Eilish recently made her acting debut, proving what a multi-hyphenate she is.
Earlier this year in March, the Los Angeles native featured in TV thriller series Swarm (the latest project from Donald Glover) to much acclaim.
'She’s so respectful of the craft. She came in with ideas, wanting to talk about it, being game to rehearse,' Swarm star Dominique Fishback said of Eilish. 'I think she’s wonderful. I’m such a fan of her as a person due to what I experienced with her on set.'
