Billie Eilish Wore an Unexpected Take on the Black Corset Dress to the 2024 Critics Choice Awards
Billie Eilish brought a very fresh take on the school uniform to the Golden Globes last Sunday. And last night the Barbie singer did it again, putting an unexpected twist on a black corset dress at the 2024 Critics Choice Awards. Billie wore the dress over a white top. The look was by Thom Browne. Her hair was styled straight and up.
Billie was nominated again for Best Song for the film’s track “What Was I Made For?”
She and her brother, Finneas, spoke to Entertainment Weekly in December about creating the acclaimed song. The Oscar buzz surrounding the track is “surreal,” Billie said. “The fact that we were nominated in the first place for ‘No Time to Die’ was insane.”
Billie recalled that she was asked to write “What Was I Made For?” during “a dark, slow period of time.”
“I was also in a weird place mentally in my life,” she explained. “We were in the studio and did come up with stuff, but nothing felt right [for my next album]. I don’t think I was able to be vulnerable and self-aware about my life and surroundings. That makes it hard to write sometimes. When we had this new thing to write about that wasn’t [about] my life, it was almost relieving. I didn’t have to worry about how I felt. I could just write from the perspective of this character. What was amazing is immediately after, I realized it was absolutely about me and my life. I didn’t even mean to do that.”
She added that she did not foresee the song having the resonance it has had, especially on TikTok. “I was pleasantly surprised,” she said. “That happens every time. Every time we make a song, it’s still, ‘Oh my God, I hope people like it.’”
