Leading up to the holidays, Black Friday is usually the biggest shopping event of the season, but this year things are shaping up to look a little different.

Not only is Black Friday heading online as major retailers like Walmart, Target and Best Buy are planning to remain closed for American Thanksgiving, but other big changes are in store for shoppers looking to save this holiday season.

Kicking things off early, Amazon Prime Day 2020 is also taking place within the next couple of weeks, and you’re going to want to take advantage of all the deals and discounts. You might even want to skip out on the hassle of Black Friday entirely, and finish off your holiday shopping ahead of schedule for once.

What is Prime Day?

Prime Day is Amazon’s biggest and best global shopping event with exclusive deals for Amazon Prime members. Last year, for the first time ever, Amazon announced a two-day Prime Day event — and the same will be happening this year. The event only lasts for a limited time, with flash sales and deals of the day to take advantage of for a limited time. Last year’s top seller for Prime Day in Canada was the Lifestraw Personal Water Filter - so expect to find similar deals on electronics, outdoor gear and home goods at majorly discounted prices.

When is Prime Day?

While it normally takes place during the month of July, Prime Day this year was postponed due to the global coronavirus pandemic.

Amazon has just announced that this year, Canadians will be able to access their biggest shopping event beginning at 12 a.m. PST on Oct. 13 and ending at 11:59 p.m. PST on Oct. 14. That’s two full days of flash sales, major discounts, and exclusive savings for Prime members!

Why should I shop Prime Day instead of Black Friday?

In 2019, Amazon Prime members from 18 countries worldwide saved more than one billion dollars on purchases throughout Prime Day. You can expect that this year’s sale is going to offer just as many savings, all at some of the best prices of the year.

While both Black Friday and Prime Day will bring the savings for shoppers, you likely won’t find bigger deals on Amazon the longer you wait. Shopping early also takes the stress out of shipping delays, which have been plaguing online shoppers since demand first spiked last spring.

"This year's Prime Day is the perfect opportunity for Prime members to get their holiday shopping done early from the comfort of their homes – and to have more time to spend with their family and friends throughout the season," said Jeff Wilke, Amazon CEO Worldwide Consumer.

Though Amazon has yet to announce specific deals and discounts, you can get a head start by putting together a wish list of top-rated items that are likely to go on sale this year, including the best-sellers ahead.
