Blame Canada: New Poll Shows American Women Prefer Polite Guys Across the Border
Whether it’s the rugged cowboy, heroic GI, the man in the gray flannel suit, or even the dad bod-burdened 21st-century man, the mythology of the sexy American man has withstood the test of time for generations. Who knew the threat to that image would be coming via a sneak attack from our North American neighbors (or should we say, neighbours)?
A recent poll of over 40,000 people from travel dating app Miss Travel discovered that its female members appear to like their men the way they like their bacon: Canadian. Women polled by the service preferred the sexiness of our Canadian counterparts over American men by a chilling 31 percent margin. Following the second-place Americans in the list of the top five most sexy males were Australian, Italian, and Spanish men.
Perhaps this increasing preference is due to the ongoing onslaught of Canadian-born superstars in media and entertainment. Blame the likes of the two Ryans (Gosling and Reynolds), Drake (née Aubrey Graham), and, yes, even Justin Bieber. It’s men such as these who have shaken the image of American men in the eyes of our hometown sweethearts.
Yet, if you think it’s just looks that helped Canadian men trounce their U.S.-based rivals, we must politely point you to the specific criteria the ladies voted on: Their results were actually determined by personality first, followed by accent, and lastly facial features. Guess that polite way Canadians say “about” isn’t so weird after all.
For their part, American guys remained loyal to the red, white, and blue and rated American ladies first, with Armenian (blame Kim K?), Canadian, Cuban, and Colombian women completing their top choices for sexiest women in the world.
This should all make for a very interesting conversation at your Fourth of July party.
