Legendary Toronto chef Susur Lee to open restaurant in Manhattan

Toronto chef Susur Lee has an ongoing love affair with New York City.

Despite his past flop with Big Apple-based restaurant Shang, which closed in 2011 after a two-year run, Lee is determined to take another chance with the city that never sleeps.

He recently announced plans to open an exclusive fine-dining restaurant and a "grab 'n go" eatery at the iconic One World Trade Center in Manhattan. The tower is slated to open in 2015.

“It’s a great city. The food there is fantastic. The chefs there are fantastic," his longtime public relations co-ordinator, Aura Wallace, tells the Toronto Star. "We’re all very excited about the idea of this restaurant and we’re looking forward to seeing how it develops.”

The restaurant -- open only to members of the China Center business club, which will occupy six floors of One World Trade Centre -- boasts fine dining for breakfast, lunch and dinner and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city. Meanwhile, the "grab 'n go" eatery will serve the general public.

The menu will represent the eight main regions of China and will blend traditional Chinese flavours with a modern and contemporary flair, CTV reports.

Television audiences might recognize Lee for his appearances on shows like "Iron Chef America" and "Top Chef Masters." The legendary chef is known for his haute Chinese food that mixes Asian and French flavours and techniques.

He is currently heading a trio of restaurants, including Lee and Bent in Toronto, and TungLok Heen in Singapore.
