  • Bobbi Brown got real about how she feels looking in the mirror every day.

  • Like anyone else, her thoughts about her reflection change all the time.

  • That’s why she believes finding inner confidence is important—and she hopes to help women do just that with her new YouTube series called I Am Me.

Everyone, even successful people like Bobbi Brown, has off days when they aren’t the most confident. As a makeup artist and cosmetics creator, beauty is Brown’s brand—and yet, she doesn’t rely on it to make her feel whole. Because let’s face it, we all look and feel a little different every day—a truth she discussed with Gloria Steinem in an episode of her new YouTube series, I Am Me.

“I’m shocked sometimes when I look in the mirror and I’m like, ‘Oh my god, who is that?’ and other times I’m like, ‘I look pretty good!’” Brown said. “And then I realize that neither of them really matter.” And that’s the real definition of confidence—not always feeling good or looking good, but knowing your value and pressing forward regardless.

Brown created I Am Me, a project in which she interviews influential women in her community—like Steinem and comedian Zarna Garg—to empower women everywhere to believe in themselves and follow their dreams, regardless of their age, appearance, or situation.“What I love most about [it] is listening to each of these incredible women, who are all of different ages, skin tones and backgrounds, share their unique stories and experiences,” she said in a statement. The ultimate goal is that the stories string a web of confidence to be utilized by women everywhere—one that goes deeper than makeup.

Brown explained the series further in a blog post on Jones Road Beauty’s site. “I’m so inspired by the incredible women I’m lucky enough to call my friends. They’re bold, they take risks, and they’re all so unapologetically themselves. That’s why I asked them to be a part of this series,” she wrote. “As women, we have to build each other up. That means listening to and learning from each other. Hearing what these women have to say is so inspiring, and I think you’ll feel the same.”

Brown hopes the series inspires viewers to find room to accept the mirror, and what’s inside, every day as part of an ongoing personal evolution. It’s “a reminder that we’re all a work in progress—and that’s OK,” she wrote. “Just be you. Be your best. Everything you need is right there.”
