I Braved the Zara Fitting Room Line and Found the 15 Best Winter Arrivals

Including jackets and bags that look much more expensive than they are.
Let’s be honest—scrolling through Zara’s new arrivals section online isn’t always the easiest way to determine which pieces are worth buying. Personally, I need to see and touch pieces IRL to figure out which items are worth adding to my carefully-curated closet. Colder weather means bigger pieces, which means less room in my wardrobe; every single item needs to earn its keep.
With this in mind, I ventured to my local Zara in search of some fall fashion pieces, and even braved the fitting room line to give you a try-on haul and review. I’ll spare you the misses and stick to the good stuff—which is easy, because Zara is really killing it right now. From holiday party picks to cold-weather layers to accessories to jazz up even the simplest of basics, everything below has my editor’s stamp of approval. And yes, I made sure to include some major of-the-moment trends, from oxblood red to leopard print and more.
Below, shop the 15 best Zara arrivals you won’t regret—from $30.
Knit Puffer Anorak
Something about a cable knit puffer gives me serious aprés ski vibes—even if I’m just wearing mine to the office and back. I’ve noticed high-end retailers selling similar puffers for a pretty penny, but this one gets the job done at just over $100 bucks. Plus, it actually did a great job at keeping me warm. Now I just need to book a trip to a ski chalet to give this piece the moment it deserves.
ZW Collection Checkered Pleated Skirt
I’ve never met a midi skirt I didn’t like—but I’ve only met a few that I really, truly love. And this one checks all my boxes! It has a hidden zip closure and alternating abstract checkered prints divided by box pleats (pleating is so on trend right now). The black-and-cream combination makes this the ultimate skirt to style with any and all neutrals to add a pop of pattern. I’d really love it with a chunky knit and some tall, pointy-toed boots (but it also looks great here with Zara’s Soft Pocket Jacket).
Gold Mesh Slip Dress
Zara really excels at partywear—think fun, glitzy pieces that are perfect for holiday party season, but maybe not wearable enough to make a sizable investment in. This glitzy gold halter style is definitely a head-turner for any and all festivities this season, and I was shocked to find it costs less than $100. Style with an oversized black blazer, and ditch it when you arrive at the party for a glamorous reveal.
Floral Knit Cardigan
The easiest way to breathe new life into your wardrobe is to incorporate pops of red. It’s the equivalent of adding a red lip to a simple makeup look—instantly more exciting. Any simple red knit will do, but I’m personally drawn to this button-front cardi with fun floral appliqués. The rosette trend did not die with summer’s end, so it’s safe to say you won’t be sick of this look any time soon.
Fringe Clutch
Okay, this is your reminder not to sleep on Zara for occasion dressing and accessorizing. Its evening bags are seriously underrated, and this clutch is proof. Yes, it’s the perfect thing to spice up that dress for your upcoming holiday party, but I’m here to argue this bag is versatile enough to be dressed up and down. Picture it styled with leather pants and a super chunky turtleneck sweater—plus, it’s got a detachable strap to throw over your shoulder.
Faux Fur Animal Print Coat
Zara has been killing the outerwear game this season, but I think this coat might be their best piece to date. I believe that there are “good” leopard prints and “bad” leopard prints, and this cool-toned gray option is decidedly Very Good. Not to mention, it’s a little different than the typical brown iterations I’ve seen at so many other retailers, which makes it feel more special. I recommend sizing up for a slouchier fit, especially if you plan to style with larger knits underneath (Psst, there’s a matching top.)
Metallic Bracelets, 2-Pack
Take it from me — this is one of those buy-once, wear-a-thousand-times-and-wonder-how-you-ever-lived-without-them purchases. Big gold bangles look great with anything slinky, frilly or fuzzy for holiday party season, but they’re also a great option for sliding on top of your go-to fitted black turtleneck to completely elevate your daily ‘fit. If you’ve got a pair of gold chunky hoops that never fail you, consider this the bracelet equivalent.
Soft Pocket Jacket
Cropped jackets that can be worn fastened as tops or unbuttoned as layering pieces have been a major trend this season, and this is definitely one of the more versatile iterations I’ve come across. I tried on the Anthracite Grey (IMO, dark gray is so luxe), but this piece also comes in black, tan and sand. It’s an especially good item to pack for holiday travels, as the ability to wear it as a top or jacket means maximum styling opportunities without overstuffing your suitcase.
Combination Running Shoes
I was once a girl who would never dream of wearing sneakers anywhere besides the gym. Now, they’re a key piece in my wardrobe for everyday styling, especially when they have a unique edge. This particular pair—in oxblood, the It color of the season—features a mixed-materials exterior that looks seriously high-end. It’s safe to say these will definitely not be seeing the inside of a gym anytime soon.
Asymmetrical Soft Cape
I know this might not feel like the most exciting buy, but a cape or poncho like this is the key to elevating your simplest of winter looks; it’s all about the silhouette. Throwing this over a plain black top and denim instantly creates a look out of your everyday basics. I was drawn to the beige marl colorway, but this also comes in dark gray and brown.
Studded Shoulder Bag
Dome studs are all the rage right now, and this bag is a great way to try the trend without investing too heavily. Dare I say, it gives major Chloé vibes? The adjustable shoulder strap means multiple ways to wear—we love versatility!—and the gold O ring hardware is practically an invitation to clip on some bag charms and personalize to your heart’s content.
Faux Fur Animal Print Hat
I’m all for fun cold-weather accessories, and this hat is a big win in my book. I’m always drawn to this shape, but for one reason or another, the fit ends up a bit off, whether the hat itself is too deep or the fluff is simply too much. I found this one to be exceptionally flattering and fun. I’ll be pairing with all-black looks to give my winter wardrobe a “wild” touch.
Draped Knit Bobble Appliqué Top
Folks, I’ve finally found it: The perfect winter going-out top. I’m all about a long-sleeved black shirt for easy styling at night, but I like to find styles with a little added oomph to keep things interesting. It’s all about details, and the ruched detailing at the center and sides of this top really elevate the look. The pop of silver hardware looks especially premium—pair with chunky silver earrings and the look is complete.
Faux Fur Animal Print Overshirt
Now, this is one of those items that looks more expensive than it is. The faux-ponyhair finish on this shacket situation makes it look really luxe IRL. In fact, if I had to pick just one leopard piece from my entire try-on haul (don’t make me choose!), I believe this would be my front-runner. I’d style with a black micro mini and tights a la Fran Fine from The Nanny, or even with black leggings and riding boots for a funky equestrian feel.
Studded Leather Sash Belt
Can I share with you one of my biggest style secrets? Belts do not have to cost a lot of money to look incredible. In fact, I’ve amassed quite the collection of Zara belts over the years—and this is the newest addition. I plan to use it to cinch in some of my looser sweater dresses, and maybe even belt some of my outerwear to change up the look. If the burgundy feels too bold, you can also snag it in a more classic beige faux-snake pattern.
