Fight breaks out on flight after 'very drunk' man objects to female passenger not wearing shoes

A Ryanair flight traveling from Glasgow, Scotland to Tenerife, Spain, descended into chaos after two male passengers started exchanging blows — and it reportedly all started because a woman was going barefoot on the plane.

As Sky News reports, two men were escorted off the Mar. 16 flight upon the plane’s arrival in Tenerife following the bloody altercation. According to an eyewitness who posted footage of the brawl to social media, the men clashed after one objected to the other’s girlfriend heading to the plane’s bathroom without any shoes on.

“It all started over a woman not wearing her shoes on the flight going to the toilet, and a very drunk man pulled her up about it, saying that someone would stand on her toes, then the woman’s boyfriend stepped in and tried to defuse the situation,” passenger Ben Wardrop told the Press Association. “Once the plane landed and more alcohol was consumed the man and the woman’s boyfriend started arguing. Both being very drunk they started to fight, and the man in the video with lots of blood was trying to get the man to calm down and he got hit on the nose.”

Footage shows passengers, one of whom had blood smeared across his face, trying to separate the men.

Wardrop added that a young female flight attendant helped break up the fight. “It was a very scary moment as it was very confined and lots of innocent people got involved due to the small space on the plane,” he said.

A man claiming to be on the plane for a subsequent flight that day showed a blood-smeared cabin.

Ryanair confirmed that police assistance was requested “after two passengers became disruptive in-flight.”

“The aircraft landed normally and police removed and detained two individuals,” an airline spokesperson said in a statement. “We will not tolerate unruly or disruptive behavior at any time and the safety and comfort of our customers, crew and aircraft is our number-one priority. This is now a matter for local police.”

The skirmish has commenters blasting the men’s boorish behavior on social media.
