Breitling has announced a new set of watches as part of its deal as the official timing partner of the Six Nations Rugby.

The six new Chronomat limited editions come with dials that individually honour England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Italy and France.

For the first time since the partnership began in 2022, and the initial Chronomat Six Nations series was released in 2023, the watches are being launched as matching sets: comprising 40mm GMT models, and 32mm time-only editions.

Breitling says the former is for men and the latter is for women, in part to acknowledge "the growing prominence of women’s rugby".

For him, the 40mm GMT is produced in a limited run of 250, with a coloured dial in the associated shade of each nation, plus that nation's name displayed in its local language.

They come with a GMT hand that enables the wearer to display a second time zone, 42-hours of power reserve and 200m of water resistance. The watch is powered by Breitling’s Calibre 32 movement, and the engraved case back features the union crest, plus the legends “Six Nations Rugby” and “One of 250”.

For her, the 32mm Chronomat three-hander comes as a 75-piece limited edition with yellow gold indexes, something Breitling says adds “sophistication and contrast” against the colourful dials. The union crest along with “Six Nations Rugby’” and “One of 75” is engraved on the case back. This one is powered by Breitling’s calibre 77 quartz movement, and is water resistant to 100m.

The Chronomat line, originally from the mid-1980s and revived in 2022, has been a best-seller for the brand, and its key features are all present and correct here, including the “onion” crown, vintage-inspired bracelet and distinctive "rider tabs" around the bezel.

In common with other watchmakers, Breitling has frequently offered its watches in a smaller size to appeal to women – eg: 2020's Chronomat 36 and Chronomat 32 ladies' collection.

But this is the first time a set of themed watches have been made available for both men and women. (And that theme has been the rugby.)

“You can feel the energy of rugby’s greatest championship, and all six unions in these limited editions, created by Breitling for this partnership,” says Breitling CEO Georges Kern.

“We are proud to be the official timekeeper of Six Nations Rugby, supporting both men’s and women’s rugby, and celebrate the bold spirit of a sport that resonates with Breitling’s sense of purpose.”
