Bride and groom shock wedding guests by shaving their heads totally bald at reception: ‘For you, Mommy’

A couple shocked their friends and family by shaving their heads at their wedding reception, and the reason is bringing TikTok to tears.

Newlywed Jony Lee (@jonymlee) gained over 23.8 million views and 34,000 comments when she posted the video to her account.

While we’ve seen tear-jerking wedding moments go viral before — like this father of the bride who stopped halfway down the aisle to grab his daughter’s stepdad — Jony’s powerful gesture is one for the books.

Jony and her groom, Alistair, announced at their wedding reception that they would not be performing the “money dance” — a Filipino tradition in which the bride and groom dance while guests tuck money into their clothes.

Instead, they would be doing something shocking: shaving their hair off.

“If you do have any bit of cash on you, we are going to be shaving our heads for cancer,” the bride announced in a quivering voice. “Whatever money you lay in front of us, we will be donating it tonight.”

Jony and Alistair chose to forgo tradition to stand in solidarity with Jony’s mom, Luna Macapagal, who was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer in 2018.

To keep the disease at bay, Luna had undergone surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatment. In the process, she had lost her hair.

To show their support, Jony and Alistair decided to shave their heads. But Alistair suggested doing it on their wedding day, in front of all their guests, to make a powerful statement.

Thanks to their beautiful gesture, the couple donated over $3,000 to the Cancer Society.

Sadly, Luna passed away two months after the wedding. But her beloved memory lives on through her daughter’s TikTok videos, through which Jony continues to spread cancer awareness and honor her mom’s life.

“This has been the most beautiful, sincere, heartfelt and selfless love I’ve ever seen. Really made my heart cry out loud. Our deepest condolences,” one TikTok user commented on Jony’s video.

“My heart just smiled. I felt the love you had for your mama,” another user wrote.

To this, Jony replied, “I hope she felt every ounce of love we had for her.”
