  • Since announcing their wedding date in January, Kalina and Shane had been talking nonstop about it

  • The couple invited more than 75 people, yet when the big day arrived only five people showed up

  • The heartbroken bride explained what happened on TikTok and has received thousands of supportive comments in response

A heartbroken bride and groom are reevaluating their friendships after almost no one showed up to their wedding.

The bride, Kalina, took to TikTok to share a devastating wedding sight — the doors opening to an empty venue. In her caption, she explained how she had been talking nonstop for the past 10 months about her masquerade ball-themed wedding. However, despite inviting more than 75 people, only five came.

"It just makes me think, like, why? What did we do? Am I that bad of a person? What did my husband ever do to deserve any of this? Why couldn’t we matter enough for people to show up?" she questioned in the caption.

"I still have 'friends' that haven't even messaged me to congratulate me or tell me why they didn't come," she continued. "It truly makes me sick. I honestly can't wrap my head around this yet."

The wedding invitations requested that guests arrive at 1 p.m. but at 1:15 p.m. Kalina's mother messaged her that no one had shown up yet. The bride and groom waited until 2 p.m. to enter the venue, which was set up for 40 RSVPs, yet only five people were there when they walked in.

"We enter the venue and no one is there … I dreamed that I would walk in to a bunch of people cheering us on. Hooting and hollering for us in celebration," wrote Kalina, who instead ended up walking into silence and empty chairs. "But all you see is a woman trying to hold herself together because she had NO idea how to deal with her venue being almost completely empty."

Kalina and Shane got engaged on Christmas Day in 2019, right before the COVID-19 pandemic "hit the world and shut everything down." Consequently, wedding planning was delayed until this year. When the couple of nine years announced their wedding date in January, they could hardly wait for the day they had always dreamed about — but it became a nightmare.

"All the wasted food and drinks. All the empty tables and chairs. Every moment of my reception changed to adapt," Kalina continued.

But she wasn't about to let her no-show guests ruin her special day. She wrote that they still made the most of it, sharing upbeat dancing videos and positive moments from the reception.

"My little group is really all I need," Kalina wrote in the caption of another TikTok video. "And now I truly know who is there for me and who is not. I will just be forever grateful that so many people got to see the entrance I dreamed about for so long."

She added of the first and only wedding dance she shared with Shane: "We told each other we were all we needed and it was us against the world."

Many commenters on TikTok were confused as to why so many people decided to not attend what they knew was a very important day for the Oregon-based couple. Some even questioned if there's another side to the story.

Thousands of other TikTokers tried to brighten the mood, praising Kalina for how beautiful she looked in her wedding dress and noting that they would love to attend a do-over wedding for the couple.

"NAH REDO THIS. WE ALL SHOWING UP," read the top comment, which received more than 16,500 likes.

Another comment — with more than 15,000 likes — said, "Let's do it over. This time invite me and the rest of us. We'll show up and out. I love you beautiful and congratulations!!"

A week after the wedding, Kalina shared an update in another video that she and her husband are "still a little embarrassed and still moving through the stages of grief," as well as "still dealing with anger."

"I wouldn't even wish this on my worst enemy," she said.

In a post after that, Kalina confirmed that she has not received many explanations from those people who did not show up.

"For the most part, we've done a lot of deleting and reevaluating our lives and just spending a lot of time appreciating what we have," she explained.
