Bride Says Uninvited Wedding Guest Refused to ‘Take No For an Answer’ and Showed Up to Rehearsal Dinner
“We should have known then how desperate she was to come, but figured it would eventually sink in that she would not be attending...," the bride said
A bride says her dad’s cousin tried to weasel her way into her wedding despite not being invited and “wouldn’t take no for an answer.”
The bride shared in a post on Reddit’s “Wedding Shaming” forum that the relative and her husband lived in a major city that was two hours away from where the wedding was being held and had tried numerous times to include herself in the wedding festivities.
“She pestered my parents relentlessly about coming to the wedding, to which the reply was always, ‘Sorry, we are not allowed to have more than x number of people on the property including photographers, caterers, etc. and simply cannot facilitate any further wedding guests,’ ” the Redditor said.
“We should have known then how desperate she was to come, but figured it would eventually sink in that she would not be attending no matter how she begged,” she added.
She said it all started when her dad’s cousin contacted her family to meet up after she and her mother traveled to where the wedding was being held to begin wedding preparations. She said she and her mother “compromised” and met them for dinner, but it was a “big mistake” as they tried to force an invitation again.
“They very much did want to drive over and meet us for dinner, so we grabbed a bite with them and tried to part ways....only to be told that they (totally spontaneously and not at all with an agenda) went ahead and booked a hotel [at the town where the wedding was being held] and just decided to make a weekend getaway of it,” she said.

However, she said it didn’t end there, as the next morning, after the bride and her mother went to meet up with her brother and his family, the relative “inserted herself into the reunion” and “ruined an otherwise sweet and wonderful moment.” What’s worse, the bride said the family member attached “herself to us and followed us everywhere” in the hours after.
“The worst moment that finally pushed me over the edge came during a late lunch,” she wrote. “She followed us in and sat right down with us, then proceeded to comment on every single thing I did for the entire meal.”
“The two comments that still sick out were ‘you're sure going to be a beautiful lobster with the sunburn you're going to get eating outside like this’ as we sat fully shaded under two huge umbrellas, and, after I ordered two street tacos "I guess making sure you fit into your dress never occurred to you if you're going to be eating all of THAT!’ ”
The Redditor said she got rid of the relative by telling her that the events after were only for the bridal party. But her dad’s cousin wouldn’t quit and made one more attempt to invite herself to the wedding on the day of the rehearsal dinner.
“... She and her husband genuinely did show up at the venue that evening, gifts in hand…,” the woman recalled. “They were fully dressed and ready to be a part of the event. She went around to every single person there, telling them about how much it would mean to her to be there at the wedding…”
She said her “very confrontational and authoritative” brother then “stepped in” and reminded the relative that she “was not invited” and “would not be showing up” to the wedding. The bride added that her relative finally got the hint on the third strike “and thankfully we did not hear from her again that weekend.”
