Brie Larson is unrecognisable with a new brunette pixie cut
Brie Larson has become the latest celebrity to undergo a major hair transformation ahead of the Christmas season, sidelining her signature blonde lengths in favour of a statement brunette pixie cut. The actress, who will star in a West End performance of Elektra at the Duke of York's Theatre from January 2025, debuted her dramatic cut via Instagram yesterday and is borderline unrecognisable with the short, textured style.
The striking new look is courtesy of hairstylist Cervando Maldonado and colourist Jacob Schwartz who, respectively, trimmed Larson's cascading blonde hair into a Jean Seberg-esque classic pixie cut before transitioning her to a deep, brunette tone. Complete with a face-framing, wispy finish, the short style, timed for her run in Elektra (but also an on-point seasonal update), complements the star's features perfectly.
Larson is far from the first celebrity to opt for a statement hairstyle switch-up (albeit driven by a role) for the colder season ahead; fellow actress and White Lotus star Sydney Sweeney showcased a timeless taupe shade, also created by Schwartz, this weekend. The custom blend of Schwarzkopf Professional colour resulted in a shade he coined dark suede blonde. "If you look at a suede bag or shoe, it has texture and dimension. It isn't dramatic, it’s quiet, but it’s there," the colourist explained, and this is the hair shade equivalent.
If there's a lesson to be taken away from this week's beauty best-in-show, it's that the traditional act of updating your colour to a cooler-toned richer depth in the colder months is, for winter 2024 at least, enduring.
