It's official: The days of visiting furniture showrooms have come to an end.
For years, there was really no other alternative to hitting up the local big-box stores and scheduling an expensive delivery. These days, more and more online retailers are making it easy to find the perfect pieces for your home, which you can have shipped conveniently to you just like any other online order.
Burrow is the latest furniture brand to hit the Canadian market, with a selection of ready-to-ship styles that will elevate your living room. While their primary focus is on a selection of modular sofas that you can configure to your liking, you'll also find coordinating armchairs, storage, and ottomans to match — all with free shipping.
To celebrate Burrow's expansion into Canada, we've got an exclusive discount code to save on your online order. Just use the code YAHOOCA15 at checkout to save 15 per cent.
Curious to know more about Burrow's home furniture? I put their Nomad Sofa to the ultimate test by building it myself, so keep reading for my thoughts.
I recently moved into a new house and have been doing a ton of redecorating in the past three months, including in my living room. My tired Ikea couch had seen better days, and the thought of upgrading to something a little higher quality was top of mind.
What caught my eye about Burrow was the versatility of their pieces. Although I live in a fairly small space now, I do plan on looking for a larger home eventually. Having furniture that can grow and change with you is a novel idea, and one that I'm hoping to put to use should I decide to add on to my sofa in the future.
Shoppers have been loving the Nomad Sofa, as it's earned a 4.6-star rating from nearly 2,000 customer reviews. I was curious to see if it lived up to the hype, and to its claims of "easy, tool-free assembly that can be done in minutes."
Delivery and assembly
Burrow's delivery was pretty quick and easy, and my sofa arrived at my door within just a few days of ordering. However, it was interesting to note that not all the pieces arrived at the same time — I received two boxes on a Thursday, and the final three boxes the next day.
While the boxes were each pretty large, I was able to move them inside the house by myself one at a time — something I've never been able to do with furniture in the past. Each box was conveniently labeled with the piece that it contained, making it easy to start assembling in minutes.
It's true that no tools were needed in order to put the couch together — just a bit of elbow grease. The modular couch sections snap together with latches, and the legs simply screw into place by hand.
Most of the assembly was pretty straight-forward, but I did have some trouble when it came time to attach the arms. If you had two people it wouldn't be an issue, but it was a little tricky to line up the pegs that snap into place when connecting the arms to the couch frame.
All in all, it took me 45 minutes to build alone, mostly because I just wanted to see if it could be done. With some extra help from a friend, I'm sure you could slash that number in half, and get to enjoying your sofa even sooner.
Now that it's been a few days since I added this Burrow sofa to my living room, I have some thoughts. I've been impressed by the timeless design of the Nomad Sofa, since not only does it match perfectly with my cozy/industrial/boho aesthetic, it also feels really well built.
There are tons of thoughtful details, like a built-in USB port to conveniently charge your electronics and reversible back cushions that let you choose between a tufted or untufted look. As I mentioned before, I look forward to keeping this sofa for years to come and adding other sections to it as needed.
The only downside to it is that the cushions on this model aren't the softest, so if you love the feeling of a plush sofa, this isn't it. The pillows are all pretty firm, and only time will tell if they soften up with use.
I'd recommend this couch to anyone who may be looking for a step up from inexpensive Ikea furniture, without sacrificing easy assembly and clean, minimal designs. It's also a great option if you have an oddly-shaped room that makes it difficult to manoeuvre traditional large-scale furniture since you build it piece by piece.
However, if you want a sofa that's more akin to the plush comfort of a cushy recliner, you may want to pass on this model. You can shop more Burrow styles below, and find the perfect piece for your home — all at 15 per cent off with our exclusive YAHOOCA15 code.
