A California Home by a Frank Lloyd Wright Protégé Hits the Market for $2.5 Million

Many of Frank Lloyd Wright’s epic homes moonlight as historical landmarks from Pennsylvania to Arizona. But one of the American architect’s protégés, Gary Tucker, has also designed some one-of-a-kind structures worth a second look. His personal residence in Northern California certainly turned heads when its sale was announced in 2016. And now, another of Tucker’s striking creations, known as The Pointe Place, is taking center stage, landing on the market for $2.5 million.

Built in 1991, the home overlooks the golf course at The Fountaingrove Club in Santa Rosa, California. The main house spans nearly 4,000 square feet with four bedrooms and three and a half baths, while an attached guest suite offers its own entrance, a compact kitchen, and bathroom. Between its light-filled spaces and wooden accents, Wright’s influence on Tucker is apparent throughout the home.

The light-filled primary bedroom has picture windows that frame windows into the treetops.

Thanks to its beige stucco exterior and being engulfed in greenery, the house sits discreetly in the landscape, while its modern interiors are full of character. Most living areas in the main house feature a smooth, wood-clad ceiling similar to that in Tucker’s personal residence, with the addition of ridgeline skylights in the vaulted ceilings. Custom woodwork and cabinetry, along with stone walls and floors, give the home a unique flair as well.

A towering stone fireplace anchors the living room, while the ample kitchen features bespoke oak cabinetry with a unique scalloped detail. A massive skylight floods the space with natural light. The nearby dining room flows out to a large deck with a fire pit and lovely views over a placid lake surrounded by the manicured golf course at The Fountaingrove Club.

The primary suite offers extraordinary views of Santa Rosa, too, thanks to its abundant windows with special mitered corners and black framing. Its massive bathroom includes separate shower and bathing options, next to a rounded glass wall. Grab a robe or a change of clothes from the large walk-in closet before heading out onto the private terrace. Other highlights include two offices and a fitness room. World-renowned wineries nearby like Donelan Family Wines, plus golf and fine-dining sites provide the off-site entertainment.

Mary Haufler and Greg Cornelius of Sotheby’s International Realty hold the listing.
