Cargo pants are making a big comeback — shop the look starting at $24
If you ever thought that the era of cargo pants in fashion has gone and went, think again.
The popular ’90s utilitarian trousers have just received the highest stamp of approval from Clare Waight Keller, artistic director of Givenchy. Keller is the designer behind Meghan Markle’s glamorous Givenchy wedding dress, and she just debuted a series of high-waisted cargo pants and jumpsuits during her Paris Fashion Week catwalk show.
Keller is one of a myriad of designers this fashion month who unveiled a version of cargo pants in their Spring 2019 collections. Designers from New York to Paris, which include Prabal Gurung, Jonathan Simkhai, Alexander Wang, Christian Dior, Fendi, Marine Serre, and Loewe, have all made a strong case for the return of the cargo pants.
However, these cargo pants are not like those military style versions you might have seen during the ’90s or those sported by 98 Degrees and the Spice Girls during their heyday. These new cargo pants are elevated and tailored. They are styled with chic blazers, cinched at the waist with skinny black belts and paired with glitzy metallic blouses. They are available in brighter, playful shades like tie-dye blues and pastel pinks rather than your stereotypical army green or camo. They are meant to be worn to the office, out at night, and beyond.
Ahead, see how high-fashion designers like Keller are bringing back the cargo pant and shop nine versions to get the look today.
